Hi guys i need to buy a z32 afm for my r33 with power fc. im looking on ebay and there are a few different brands, i can get a new one for $129 or the bosch and jecs for about $330. Is there any difference and is it worth spending the extra?

There is a difference.

One is original. One is a flea-bay copy.

You want an original - Google to find out why the copies are so bad if you want to know more.

Yes, the chinese copies of the chinese afm can be problematic. You should buy your chinese made genuine Bosch afm from an Australian supplier so at least you have some sort of recourse. There are a few traders on this forum who sell them I am fairly sure

can sum1 have a look on ebay for me and post a link to a decent one, would be much appreciated.

Why ebay?

There are over 20 Trusted SAU Traders that could source the product, for a decent price. Probably even have them in stock ready to go. Best thing is they are all Australian and you KNOW it will be legitimate.

If R31 gives me the okay ill post up the seller in here.

He has a very good rep on ebay and I purchased one off him for $130.

Jez had no trouble tuning with it and it was NOT a copy.

I read the "how to spot a fake Z32" on the nistune website as well.

Why would you pay $300 off a trader when you can get one for $130?

I understand there are fakes out there but fark look at kando...

You guys need to understand ebay has reputable sellers

How is a 2nd hand AFM - the same as a brand new one?

Buying a 10yo+ AFM is no more purposeful than buying a ebay copy. Everyone knows the AFM's shit themselves, yes you can attempt repairs, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.

So you spend $130 ($155 posted) on a repaired AFM, 6 months later it's dead. All of sudden you've spend $300 (to get another)... When you could've just spend $300 to begin with and it would be fine for the next 10 years.

The poor man pays twice.

You wouldn't use a 2nd hand fuel pump, AFM isn't much difference.

Ask anyone that's had to diagnose a intermittent fault with an AFM. It's a ripe pain in the ass. For $150 difference it's just not worth the arse ache.

    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
