Hey guys just wanted to introduce myself and my car.

Last week I picked up a Legal 89 A31 Cefiro here in LA and this site has been a great help.

My Car already came with a RB25DET conversion but needed a few bugs to be worked out.

Searching through a few forums and diagnosing the problems, thankfully alot of them were very minor things but sad to say that all the parts need to be imported.

Oh well comes with the territory.

Currently my car has a few things:

RB25DET w gearbox

Apexi Power FC

Blitz turbo Timer

Blitz Spec R Boost controller

ARC BOV

HKS intake

HKS 3' turbo back exhaust

Kenwood Navi/DVD

MB quart speakers

JL audio 550watt amp

Apine type R SUb

HID upgrade

Racing Sparco NT-R 17X9 +15

Tein coil overs

Skyline brakes and lug conversion

Sparco Competition Steering wheel

Cusco frame spacers

thats about all i can remember off the top of my head for now.

Now for the pics!

Some rim choices...

and believe it or not the girl that owned it before I did

So far my plans are to restore this car and just do simple and minor upgrades.

Pull the fenders a bit find better rims and get rid of that horrible bumper, try to go with a cleaner look.

Some thing like my old JDM Supra TT that I did a slight widebody on, you can't tell unless you park next to another supra but it's an inch wider in back and .5 inch in front.

61337_434337814235_5187942_n.jpg

I am already making my own bumper at my shop and will be posting pictures in the next few days if it turns out ok... LOL

but I just want to save this car since it's is very rare here and one of the few that is actually legalized that I have ever seen.

Not sure how it was done all I know is I got it checked out and it passed. So please no questions about it cause I don't really know, haha!

Only problem is that I do need a few parts if someone is parting out a car let me know I've been looking but there hasn't seem to be a new thread for parts on here in ages!

Here is what I need:

rear power window amp

passenger front window switch

Left front a/c vent trim

Right front sun sensor cover

both front vents on dash

both sun-visors and the bottons that connect to it, (there are tabs that

they connect to and they are broken so that is the part I need also)

and any updated grills, just in case, just looking for what other

options out there

So hit me up if you guys got any of those and of course I need it shipped to the USA California 91776

Thanks for looking guys!

Thanks spent a year and a half just on the body alone on that car!

It was a sad day when I had to let her go...

If you want to see more on her check it out here:

Hopefully I can make this car as sexy if not sexier than my supra!

I know it will be more unique! LOL!

Only had the car for about a week and got alot done!

Cleaned up the wiring and the power FC connections

549623_10151085526279236_1988575306_n.jpg

Got a Silvia FRP lip to TRY to make a new bumper...

255262_10151090909739236_1519076447_n.jpg

And while testing it last night found out that I have a real URAS front bumper

it's gonna be a shame to cut this up!

And did a full tune up which included plugs, oil & filter, clutch flush, tranny flush with MT 90 redline fluids, new rear tires, new various light bulbs and a overall go through the car.

I gotta say I love this car!

Oh one stupid thing I found out was that my speedo doesn't work so I thought that I needed to do a mechanical speed sensor conversion for the RB25 gearbox so I ordered the part. But when I went under the car to check the connection and make sure everything was correct the conversion was already done just my speedo cable end has been sheered off!!!!

I'm like WTF!!!

SO now I have to get a new speedo cable and there is no room to change it with my big hands...

not looking forward to that.

This car is really solid but just alot of little things that need attention which is kinda great but a pain in the ass at the same time cause there is alot of work to do but it's all easy stuff so you feel like you got alot of stuff done by the end of the day.

All in all though, I've spent almost every dime I have and it has been worth it!

I've got a long ways to go before she is finished but when she is I think she'll be worth it.

I have the new body designed already just kinda deciding on paint and sourcing my new engine now.

Paint and bodywork first before the new engine goes in so it'll be abut a year...

I'll continue to update as i go on, tomorrow i should be starting on the new bumper let me know your input guys!

Nice car , looks later than 89 , it looks like a series 2 judging by a few small things spotted in your pics .leave it black , black suits ceff .

Oh and Google 'importmonster' for parts im pretty sure they can post to the us , or power vehicles (not sure they do parts)

Edited by toffy

^ thanks I was just looking at his site, some nice stuff but I think it would just make sense to use one of the local yahoo auction services here.

I'm more looking to see if you guys just happen to have these parts sitting around your garage or have a car to part out.

Here is a updated list:

rear power window amp (right side)

passenger front window switch ( just the switch part not really the trim)

(I really need these 2 asap!)

Left front a/c vent trim

Right front sun sensor cover

both front vents on dash

drivers side (right side) front corner light

Speedo cable

both sun-visors and the bottons that connect to it, (there are tabs that

they connect to and they are broken so that is the part I need also)

and any updated grills, just in case, just looking for what other

options out there

And regarding the year I was actually thinking the same thing, I've been on this and other sites just reading as much as I could regarding the car and some things make sense and others don't. I'm going to have to see what else I can find.

What are your suspicions??

i would have some of that stuff , but i'm doing a trim conversion so i can't really sell anything yet. 90% it's a series 2 , the cluster surround , seat trim , grill , tail lights , dooor moulds and a couple other bits i noticed are series 2 ( '90 on ) , your side skirts and rear bar are autech btw , you should try and source one of the copy front bars ;) and then get the wheels off your old supra and put on it

Thanks guys, I knew my sides and rear were autech but sad to say they are FPR...

I was trying to find a knock off kit but the shipping time I keep getting quoted to get here would be about 3 months and really don't want to wait that long just for the front bumper

SO I started on my bumper today which I gotta say I'm pretty proud of...

only took me about 4 hours to get done but tomorrow i'll start on making it look pretty

I started by measuring everything like current height from ground, thickness of lip, how high I wanted everything to be, you know the obvious stuff.

Then the part that made me the most nervous and sad, the cutting of my authentic Monkey Magic / URAS bumper

Even though it's tore up, the fact that it's a real bumper, I really wish I had a spare just so I could have hung this on a wall or something

It's sad to see a real part be cut up

Oh well on to the rest of the day...

I cut the S13 lip in half, the lip is about 7 inches too short, and cut the sides so that the lip would sit flush to the bumper.

After I was done with that just screwed in some screws to hold everything in place, test fitting everything and made some brackets to keep everything solid!

Now check out the pics:

Not bad for 4 hrs worth of work I say!

Keep in mind that the car is raised all the way up on it's coilovers so now I am going to drop it about 2 inches to get rid of the wheel gap now that I don't have that bumper snowplowing everything!

I still am going to play with the angle of the lip and the height of it before I set the fiberglass tomorrow.

All I know if I am glad I did it and now I can take my time sourcing my OEM aero!

Also I did find out that my passenger (left) side window regulator took a shit today, I was use the bypass with the wires to get it to go up and down

So add that to the list of things

I do have a question, I noticed on the list that I can use R32, but is that GTR/ GTS-T, 2 dr or 4 dr?? or both?

I'm gonna see if I can find one but if you guys got any of these things hook it up!!!

I really just want to get my windows working at the least!

Edited by Jswljones

Ok so interesting day today, might be getting the engine early!

I'm talking to my guys about that and designing the plan as we speak so more on that later...

And in other news talked to my buddy ray at the Nismo Shop and they still don't haven't heard anything yet on if they can get parts for my car from japan, he's putting another call in for me so hopefully i can get the windows fixed atleast!!

Another buddy of mine came by for me to test fit his rims!

They are some VIP classic Leon hardiritt ordens wheels with polished lips machines faces.

Here are the specs:

Front 20/10.5 +2, 3 1/2 lip

Rear 20/12.5 +2, 5 1/2 lip

I loved them! And they sorta fit... I would have to do major body work and it's not really out of my range but it's also something i really have to think if i want to do again. It took me a year and a half to get the Supra widebody right.

I really want these though so i gotta do some homework...

well see...

anyway to the rest of the day..

I filled the missing section of the bumper which took about another 4 hours, mostly drying time for the fiberglass and bondo/ paint.

First I started by making a plug to hold the fiberglass. I did this by making a template of the shape of the lip then transfered it to a piece of florist foam that i picked up form a 99 cent store around me. Walmart has this stuff also.

Take your time with this but remember this dosen't have to be perfect.

540232_10151097830934236_1007499376_n.jpg

Then i cut out fiberglass sheet to approximate size and layed out everything before i started. I also identified weak and cracked spots around the bumper to repair and cut smaller pieces for them.

I them coated the fiberglass lip with resin first and them layed the fiberglass cloth down. then i inserted the plug and continued to coat the fiberglass.

384633_10151097831384236_534601665_n.jpg

Then I let everything dry for a bit and sanded and bondoed everything down till it was nice and smooth. After that just sprayed it black to cover and protect everything. I did leave the bottom metal bracing though just because it added strength and it wasn't noticeable.

I have suspension planned for tomorrow then brake and some other upgrades for the rest of the week!

SO it's been hot as hell here the last few days and the only time it seems even sane to work on the car is at night.

SO last night I got on to lowering the car. basically just got it to one finger gap on each side and double checked everything.

Thought it was going to be a quick and easy thing but I ended up spending over 8 hours doing it... I must have been having fun cause it didn't seem like it. LOL!

All I can say is that at 3am you should not be sweating your balls off...

unless it's with someone else...:naughty:

Basically it's just a simple coil-over adjustment, don't think I really need to say much on it but it dose make a world of difference looks wise.

I still got to take it out and test the drivability out and possibly adjust the damping.

But First look what came in yesterday!!!

578715_10151106968954236_1075395277_n.jpg

It's the first part of my z33 track rotor upgrade, now just waiting for the rotors and some other goodies!

Also I think I got a source on some parts for the car for my power window and a/c so hopefully I'll get those in the next week or so.

I Hope cause it sucks driving in this heat with limited windows and no a/c in a black car...

anyway now on to the pics!!

Tein HA's at least these are compatible with the EDFC unit... maybe I'll get one I always liked my TEMS unit in my old soarer

427096_10151106969789236_93721393_n.jpg

So all in all the car is getting there, it's only been about the second week that I've had the car and I feel like I keep this up she's be done in no time.

hopefully next will be the a/c and brakes!!!!

are you kidding?

must be a difference in style, if i was going for a boso look then i would go smaller but i'm trying to update the style so i will be filling the wheel well radius out by going with a 19' or so and redo the kit, bodywork and suspension set up.

thanks though! :)

oh my bad,it was like 4am when I wrote that... the 20's were alittle extreme... yeah the volks were nice but they just rubbed my coil-over when I tighten my lugs down and they are 5x112 but they do fit.

but I still would like to get the proper adapters and that just seems like a hassle so I think I rather just look for another set.

So i finally got my AC compressor today as well as some other parts.

Went to see a buddy of mine and he hooked it up with a few things as well as taught me a few things about the car.

He use to have a Cefiro and currently has 2 R33's. And even though I was about 80-98% sure about what I have on my car and what things were it was nice to talk to someone that could confirm things and point out the differences and the unique things for my car.

I'm always up for shop talk but it's even better when it's about my car. ;)

Had to go all the way down to San Diego but it was a nice drive after work and it was so much cooler down there too.

It was the first long distance drive I actually took her on and she performed beautifully.

My new holders that I made this past weekend

I found out that this car has a 4.33 gearing stock so I got a S13 VLSD with a 4.08 to help with the mileage for now and just keeping the other diff on the side. I also bought a Nismo 2 way from him off his R33 so that will be dropped in in the next few weeks.

A few other nice little toys were brought back but I'll just leave you with a teaser for now...

too tired to unload my trunk @ 2am...

What could this be for? :D

Well I'm excited to get my ac installed and as well as the other parts so I'll update then!

    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
