u ever been in a car quicker then a 12 sec pass?

Yeah, i can most certainly say i have. On more than one occasion too.

And if it wasnt for a sticky set of tyres on the rear end (read:not street legal tyres)

Then the ride would have been full fo wheelspin and utterly boring as any car can smoke a set or treads.

Dont get me wrong, i just see no value in a car that you cant drive to it's fullest without using slicks, or sitting at the start line at the drags for 3-4second spooling your turbo, where-by means even if you ran a 10, you'd have been hosed anyhow by a 12 sec car.

This may seem like a stupid question - but indulge me...

Why do the VLs 'spool' at the start line?

Or, more to the point, why do they take so long to 'spool'?

To get the power up on the stall converter so they leave the line with as much power/boost as possible.

Or by using a transbrake which has a similar principle.

If they didnt sit there for so long, and just went like every other car, then they'd be running nowhere near the times they do.

Hence why if i can go at the green in my car with no spooling, run a 12...

A VL sits there for 3-4 seconds after the green spooling... runs a 10

Then technically (in my eyes) no matter how fast it went... i would still be at the finish line before it :aroused: and hence the winner of a drag.

But everytime i say that it kicks up a stink, so im sitting back, waiting for the stink

Coz they run big bush bearing turbos, high stall autos and transbrakes. They need to sit on the line to get onto boost, onto their highstall and then they release the transbrake and take off. If u were to take off like a normal car, the car would spit and fart and not do to much

They can spool up long before the light go's green and just release the transbrake on the green, but often on test and tune days they dont bother and just spool up and check gauges etc.

Doesnt matter who crosses the line first imho, its a race against technical barriers and the time on the slip.

INASNT.. do me a favour man

go home tonite...

rent ur self 2 fast 2 furious.. get out ur bottle of lube...

and pretend ur a hardcore street racer...

and dont talk no more.. cause ur just a dick head..

obvioulsy u never been in a quick VL if u think it really takes us 3 minutes to start spooling.. at calder.. we usually let the ricer take of b4 we even start spooling we then hit da trans break or stally what ever they got.. get it to da right about of boost.. make sure were making as much power as we possibly can to take off with..

so really.. if you dont know what ur talking about.. just go watch ur movies.. and then jump in ur 14 sec car and take cnrs ok

...

thanks

It seems you've got a REALLY short memory...

Enjoy making your new account

Oh, and just a tip, next time you and your full sik bro's are at calder, just get out your stopwatch and see just how long they sit there after the green.

I think you'll be pleasantly amazed.

who the hell are you man, i've never heard so much crap in my life, if you wanna spend about a hundred grand on traumatics and trans brakes and stall converters and 9 inch diffs and ladder bars and then have someone drive your car around on a trailer go ahead, what a waste, you obviously don't understand the dynamics of a skyline when you drive a boat with wheels, VL commondores are the worst handling of all, they were designed to have a bench seat in the front so they were all given really soft spongy front springs then the bench seat was canned but they still got floaty boat suspension, have fun at calder dickhead, enjoy the drive their on the back of a trailer, i'd rather drive mine there do a high 11 and drive home and only spend about 30 grand to have a quick daily driver instead of a trailer bound strip basher.

Happy driving dumbass

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
