So I took my newly acquired R32 GTS-T to a local mechanic today for a blue slip(as rego ran out over 3months).

He called an hour ago and he was scared to lift it up on a 2post lift, as he said the suspension would fall out. I explained it has adjustables in it and has all been professionally fitted and so its safe, it would not fall out :P

After a bit he called back saying its not going to pass because it has a BOV and a pod filter and that you are not allowed them...

I asked well every turbo car has a BOV, so how can it be illegal to have one? (he said he doesn't make the rules) and for the pod filter he just said you are not allowed them....

I'm a bit confused, how can this be?

He didn’t ping me for the loud exhaust or thats its super low but pings me for stupid things like this^ :(

I'm heading back after work to get in writing exactly what is wrong because this to me seems outrageous.

PS. I only moved to Aus from NZ afew months ago so not entirely sure how it works here...

boggles, as in it does the same job as if it had a standard box filter. infact the car would be more economical and have less emissions with a pod filter rather then with the standard box filter... its f**ked up

i understand where your coming from, and sorry for snapping a little.

i personally always ditch my standard air box, alot of people like them for the sound. i always did. any who as your NSW, ill let you take over with the legal stuff.

have fun boys and play nice!

haha yeh well theres me being to frustrated as Ive never had to come across this before (as in NZ law is fine with atmosphere BOVs and pod filters).

anywho........

I have to change my point of view as I will consider my self lucky that that was all that was wrong in his eyes as it could have been way worse. and TBH changing to pod and BOV is easy enough.

If only we had the laws as NZ.

If only.....

hmmm [rolled.

anywhoooooo, here in strlya they dont like of we have sporty stuff. so they made a bunch of rules to say you cant have specific things!

you have 2 options.

recirculate bov and put stock airbox in

recirculate bov and build a cover for the pod. the pod has to be enclosed and removed from the chance of "catching on fire" to be deemed legal.

toodeloo

Skylines dont have BOVs from the factory as such, its known as a recurculation valve and the only way to be 100% legal, refit the factory valve and betcha you will notice no change in performance

Thanks Hadouken & StevenCJR31. Man these strayin laws are crazy! I wonder how they though a pod filter should be deemed illegal....

anywho:

When I went to pick up the car, I spoke to a different guy who loves Skylines and he just said its a stupid law but thats what it is.

So I actaully found the original 'BOV/recurculation valve' in the boot and fitted it. and guess I'll have to shell out for a intake box :(

here's a pic of the original next to the aftermarket:

There is original R32 aircleaner boxes for sale all the time on SAU and ebay real cheap. . . .and just to mess with you laws vary from state to state , for example you can have a pod filter here in western australia as long as its secured

omg are you serious, hahaha. Thanks again SteveCJR31.

I found out I could be able use the after market one. I just need to feed the hose into an intake box. Is this right? see pic^

    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
    • Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.
    • Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
