Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone owns or has applied for a registration exemption.

"A person who will only use the vehicle for designated motorsport activities may also apply for an exemption."

--> See RTA Link HERE

If you have, can you please tell me what was the process or conditions?

I am trying to make a decision wether or not to sell my car or keep it as a dedicated track car.

Cheers.

you need to look at that link again, it applies to re-registering a previously registered vehicle which was written off

"

Vehicles authorised for repair under the written-off vehicle reforms

New laws regarding the management of written-off vehicles applying to ALL NSW light vehicles up to 15 years old were introduced on 31 January 2011.

A light vehicle is a registrable vehicle that is 4.5 tonnes or less gross vehicle mass (GVM). Light vehicles include cars, trailers, caravans and motorbikes.

The registered vehicle operator (or owner if it's not registered) can apply to Roads and Maritime Services for an 'Authorisation to Repair a written-off vehicle' if the vehicle is:

  • in an exempt vehicle category and
  • is able to be repaired to legislated vehicle safety standards.

Exempt vehicle categories include:

  • Hail damaged
  • Inherited
  • Applicant was the registered operator for more than 28 days before damage occurred.

A person who will only use the vehicle for designated motorsport activities may also apply for an exemption."

As far as I am aware, there is no rego available in NSW for rally cars. I beleive the only option is to apply for an Unregistered Vehicle Permit (UVP) every time you want to drive

  • 4 weeks later...

Im going to get my brother around the P plate laws for a 33 GTR once he has the cash to buy one, we will move into an appartment as we work close, and ill register his 33 in my name, only cars he has access to will be my 34 GTR and "my" 33 GTR.

Do you have a grandparent, a pensioner, who doesn't drive anymore?

That person is still legally able to own a car and thus register it for free. The limit is one car under RMS rules.

A green slip is still required though.

And then it's your call as to whether or not to insure the car and put yourself down as a nominated driver.

The grandparent would be best to will that car to you in the process or pre-sign the 'Notice of Disposal' with you as the 'Buyer'

    • Maybe also really stiffly sprung track cars. Get the inside wheel up in a corner and all the fun stops. Also me sometimes (rarely) when I have to stand on the brake to convince the diff to drive the wheel that is still on the ground when I'm trying to diagonally get over severe driveway entrance, etc.
    • I feel like I'm missing something. You had an authorised installer come out and install a new alarm. Post install the car doesn't start, and you aren't getting the installer back to fix what they did wrong?
    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
