ok so my rb20det in my 32 has always had a hickup on idle, never been an issue but always kinda been chasing it down.

anyway with my head under the bonnet the other day i heard the distinct fluttering sound of exhaust leek,

i have also never liken my screamer pipe/ waste pipe whatever its called when its plumped in.

the screamer in blue is slid into the turbo and is wealded to the dump at the bottom in red.

the dump pipe fits well as its flanged properly but the screamer is just slid/ shoved into the wastegate hole, most people i speak to say thats just how it goes.

my first question - is their a better way to have this fitted seeing as their no bolt holes to have something matched up properly

my other option seems to have a slightly longer pipe so it slides in further and get something reeeealy snug fitting??

not really happy with the setup but i have been told im being picky.

this is where the exhaust leak seems to be coming from, the little hole on the turbo has air puffing out and from the pipe/ turbo join itself right where the turbo meets the wastegate exit.

it has also occurred to me that the wastegate is letting air out on idle. also my o2 plug which i assume is in yellow, became unconnected....this did f**k all to the running of the engine......probably not cool...what issues am i actually looking at here

and i guess to answer my other....first question, is this all making my coughing idle?

this is my turbo set up with some helpful colours to explain my ramblings

Whack looking waste gate setup.

But i'm sure you already had another thread and asked all these questions before.

Simple answer, get someone who knows how to make up an exhaust, make you a new dump pipe.

Get him to weld a small section pipe directly to the waste gate with a v band flange on it. Then another v band flanged bit of pipe for the actual waste gate pipe. Then plumb it back into the dump pipe down stream or atmo vent it, What ever you want to do.

Go to AM performance, he's in the North as you are AFAIK. Expensive but good work. You'll be happy.

ECU only looks at the 02 sensor under cruise and light load conditions so you wouldn't have even noticed it being disconnected. Maybe excess in fuel consumption. But chances are the 02 is knackered anyway.

No offense, but you appear to create thread after thread about why your car doesn't idle correctly / miss fires. But have you actually done any of whats been suggested? Like changing your coil packs, igniter, coil pack loom, cleaned the AFM, checked for vac leaks, made sure the AAC valve is functioning correctly etc etc.

thanks for the advise,

i have so far swapped out coilpacks/ and ignitor

had the aac valve cleaned

afm cleaned

replaced most vac hoses

i have had the screamer plumbed back in by a reputable shop but obviously needs more work.

no offence taken but i have had a thread about a year ago discussing taking things back to stock i.e. bov and screamer

and a rough idle fouling plugs which was fixed.

will hit up am tomorow

Have you got Nistune? Have you had it tuned since you got the car? If not at least checked base ignition timing?

Injectors may need to be pulled out and cleaned.

Air regulator might be faulty.

How much money you wanna spend at the end of the day.

well like i said, its never been a big issue and always on the list to check this and that, recently i have noticed the exhaust leak which has gottn worse and i have never liked the wastegate setup, which again has always done its job.

will sooner or later get a 25 poped in it but it is my daily so i dont mind spending some money here and their on obvious faults.

i dont know how much of an impact it has been making and didnt know if their is an easy way to redesign the pipe flange situation. especially when i keep getting told its a perfectly normal seup, just seems badly done to me.

it will have pretty much no impact to how the car runs. Certainly not idle.

If you had an exhaust leak from the head to manifold or turbo flange gasket then yes, it would have an affect.

You said you putting a 25 in it. If you are, stop spending money on this 20 now. No point in wasting more money on this engine when you won't be able to transfer a lot of the cost over to the new engine.

Have you got Nistune at all? If you dont, dont bother buying it now. Wait until you have a 25.

I wouldn't even bother repairing that exhaust setup now. Unless you plan to keep that turbo with the 25.

Yeah got a nistune, it will have a 25 put in when it's decommissioned for a while, intend to do as much as I can with mates, for now it's daily dutys, and the engine will then be used for a different car. Also don't currently have 5k but I do have a couple of hundred to fix up little things.

    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
