Time will prove you all wrong re Romain. :)

At the end of the 2013 season he will still have less kms in a F1 car than Heikki when he kicked off his F1 career in 2007. Heikki was crappola at Renault and his two seasons with McLaren even with all those testing miles.

So factor where Romain is now given his F1 mileage and I reckon I am still backing a winner :) He is really the first of the no testing guys to get a good seat in F1 and learn the ropes.

Magnussen is meant to be a quick young guy....so more power to McLaren if they give him a season re Honda to find his feet. It wont be hard to show flashes of talent and speed alongside "the car has no grip" Button

Oh, rajab...the question is now where is he going Please not Lotus. Doesnt seem to be a place for him at Sauber. Surely Force India are not going to drop Di Resta...so perhaps Sutil?

Please, please, please NOT LOTUS!

And its official...Peres is GONE! Going to be a few cashed up drivers walking around pit lane. You have to be worried if your Di Resta and Sutil.Surely Hulk is going to get the Lotus seat rather than Maldanado? If Pastor ends up at Lotus then I hope he is able to at least able to show that with a decent car he isnt a desperado but I am not holding my breath.

This is shaping up to be a very interesting 2014, new team combos...new engines....who can grow or prove themselves in their new teams as there is a lot to prove for some drivers

Even with Williams struggling at the back this season. I think they have the infrastructure to do well. You only have to look at their 2012 car. If they had two good pilots last year they would have been very competitive. Much like Lotus this year IMO!

So Williams with Symonds etc on board could build a good car next year. Mercedes power looks promising. I am hoping Smedley takes a job with them and that Brawn could find his way there as Team Principal, much like the role vacated by Toto and leaving Symondss to grunt along on the technical side. I can see 2015 being a good eyar for Wililams if they kick a few goals in the next few weeks with some more signings.

I think Bottas has done a great job this year. He is one of the 5 guys I pay particular attention to every weekend and he is doing a damn good job this year. He is developing well and not doing stupid things. All seems to be well in control....vs the likes of Jev who is more experienced that does far sillier things time and time again

Formula 1 teams are concerned that the 2014 technical regulations are forcing them into 'ugly' designs with hooked nose sections, as shown by this AUTOSPORT image.

The rules for next season require a high chassis of 525mm and a low nose tip at 185mm.

But the regulations only demand a relatively small nose tip cross-section, and teams will want to minimise the width of this area to improve air flow under the chassis.

That raises the prospect of slender, drooping nose tip extensions to meet minimum rules requirements for this section, protruding from a higher, more bulky, section that will pass crash tests and fit teams' aerodynamic needs.

While not all teams are believed to be heading down this design route, it is understood that several leading outfits believe it is the best solution.

AUTOSPORT understands that some senior Formula 1 technical personnel have already called for changes to improve aesthetics, but this was not successful due to a lack of agreement on the need to do something.

An FIA technical directive has also been issued ruling out an alternative nose solution that was put forward with a request for clarification.

Red Bull design chief Adrian Newey and McLaren sporting director Sam Michael have admitted that the 2014 cars are likely to be "ugly" due to the front impact structure.

"The low nose is not a problem," Michael explained.

"The problem is the vagaries in the way you get through the crash test - and the teams will mostly be going down one solution.

"It is not because of the chassis height."

Following news that Kimi Raikkonen is to miss the last two races of the Formula 1 season due to ‘back problems’, several other drivers have revealed that they too will be sitting out the remainder of the year...

#FernandoAlonso gave the excuse that his back was ‘still a bit hurty’.

#FelipeMassa claimed that after signing for Williams he had accidentally ‘thrown away’ all his Ferrari overalls.

#LewisHamilton announced he was missing the last two races on account of having ‘no one to look after the dogs’

#NicoRosberg said he mistakenly thought Abu Dhabi was the last race of the year and had ‘booked a two week non-refundable holiday at Center Parcs’.

#PastorMaldonado claimed his seat had got jammed too far toward after the team adjusted it ‘to let Massa have a go’

#SergioPerez will be unable to drive on account of ‘crying too much’.

#MarkWebber will not complete the season because he ‘just can’t be f**king arsed’.

In total, 20 of the current 22 drivers have elected not to compete in the final two races. As a result, the only entries in this weekend’s US GP will be Sebastian Vettel, who will win as usual, and Marussia’s Max Chilton, who will somehow finish 19th.

I lol'd

Heikki might be replacing kimi for the last two races.

Schumacher knocked back the offer to fill in for the last 2 GP. As did Nico Hulkenberg.

Looks like Lotus may have to resort to their reserve driver... what a radical idea!

Some moves are starting to firm up:

Reports are that Maldonardo to Lotus is a done deal. Seems to make sense - they can't afford to pay drivers so get one who brings money with him.

Massa to replace him at Williams also looks certain.

And Sutil says he is signed for next year.

Ah Schuey? Havent read that one. Heikki has been conformed for remainding races at Lotus.

Massa is confirmed at Williams alongside Bottas so that is Pastor out on his a55. Be itneresting to see where he lands. But looks like Di Resta is GONE! So much for the hopes of the Poms to get Bird into F1 if they cant keep Di Resta there with no money

Beer Baron doesnt get on here much these days. But whether AJ is a lump of a man or not these days matter little. Based on the speed in which he was sliding around Easter Creek in an LFA with Baron on board: i am guessing he still has more talent then likes of Chilton, even with poor aero to compensate his size and ballast

But in all seriousness, I wonder how much tyre testing miles Jaimie has done with Pirelli. Kms Buemi has done with RBR drive and promo days and test in old RB5 or whatever for 2014 tyres etc etc. IEven Kobi...I imagine there was a load of people trying to sell themselves to Lotus once Kimi puleld out of US nad Brazil. I am kind of disappointed they went for Heikki as love to have seen either of the ex STR pilots coul dhave done.

But, at the same time...lets hope Heikki does a good job...as love to see Lotus beat Fezz in the constructors!

Yeah I've been meaning to ask, where the hell has he been?

last I heard he had an acco on his bike?

    • This is the GTR fuel pump. Yellow shows 12V, orange shows earth. The ECU provides the earth to activate the fuel pump relay. The ECU side of teh relay will pull low when the ECU activates. This is the RB20 fuel pump. Almost the same, but a little simpler. You can see I indicated (above) where the 12V line goes down to the RB20 diagram on the overall diagram, whch shows both RB26 and RB20. This is where I show it coming in on the RB20 diagram below. You can see that the dropping resistor is handled differently. When the fuel pump control is not providing earth to the pump, the pump earths through the dropping resistor and thus runs at lower voltage (some is wasted over the resistor) and runs slower. I showed that "not 12V and not quite earth" portion of the wiring in a paler orange. The rest of the wiring that I did not colour on that little section below the pump would be orange when the fuel pump coontroller is providing earth. This drop is handled inside the fuel pump controller in the GTR. Regardless, you can see where 12V is supposed to be, where earth is supposed to be. The key on prime is via the ECU providing the pump for only a few seconds the switching off. You should be able to see that happen.
    • Yeah so when you turn key to IGN the fuel pump should run for a few seconds. If you find the fuel pump relay (and have a multimeter, and a second person) to can check the relay inputs.  One trigger pin should be either fully earthed  The other trigger pin should get 12v from the ECU for say 3 seconds when you turn key to IGN, and at all times that key is at START (note, I said this from memory, it may be the other way around, ie one pin always has IGN 12v and the earth has continuity to earth when you turn the key) One Pin should have a good battery voltage The last pin goes to the fuel pump + Also note that if the power to the relay is good, and the relay is working, it is worth checking the pump has a good earth too. There is a computer in the standard system that increases the earth resistance to slow down the pump when not required, pretty old school and it may have failed
    • All this talk about fuel and fancy ECUs, meanwhile my poor old R32 has neither.... When the ignition is turned on, should there be power running o the fuel pump constantly or just for the few seconds it usually takes to prime the pump? About to go have another look at it, have watched some YouTube vids on how to use a  multimeter and looked at some wiring diagrams but really have NFI what I'm looking for because electricity is invisible
    • Yuh....but weren't all the supertourers, except maybe the Audis, FWD? I don't recall any of the others being AWD.
    • They ran them in Oz Super Tourers too https://www.supertouringregister.com/register/vehicle/212/ (I'm so old I remember racing with Matthew Fox) They ran them in Oz Super Tourers too https://www.supertouringregister.com/register/vehicle/212/ (I'm so old I remember racing with Matthew Fox)
