Hey all,

I have a 33 gtr and I'm looking to add some cams.

I'm going for tomei as no extra work is needed just drop in.

But I'm unsure to go type a or type b.

I'm not the most mechanically minded so reading specs isn't helping me.

What would I notice in the way of difference installing one over the other?

Which should I go for?

My set up is a forged rb26

-5s with the bolt ons making 340rwks at 18psi

Does make more power with less boost.

Tough idle.

better midrange and topend.

Check out the RB26 dyno thread. You'll find my graph (tomei type b) and my mate's Sloane, similar cams, and other similar setups.

Will it make it any more responsive? More torque? More kws? Etc?

On the street or a dyno?

I know two people who took them out (for stock), went faster around Sandown. You be the judge, it's not just about dyno plots when fully loaded.

I've said that enough over the years so I'll leave it at that.

Or keep the stock cams, tune to 22-24psi and see how much it makes then.

If it's 360+ keep the stock cams.....

If you want to push over 390-400 the stockers may need replacing.

In the end it is up to you.

Such contradicting info out there over cams! My tuner said i should get them but others say dont bother etc.

The car is a daily driver with drags on the weekend in mind.

Also while people are reading, my boost controller is a AVC-R, ive never had one before. does it allow for a high / low boost settings? ie 17 - 18 psi daily. 21 psi drag day?

You can have either high, low or off setting, all this depends on your wastegate spring of course, its a good controller, in your lower gears like second you can increase the duty to fine tune, you can ramp it up early too just be careful if you dont know what your doing...

    • Yes the gear for the R33/34 is different, it is red and has a different number of teeth. My part didn't come with that gear though, so I don't know how many teeth are on the red one. You'd have to reuse the 260RS/R33 gear, as long as it's not destroyed.   Haha, as unfortunate as that might be it was working fine for about the first 1500km I've had the car for now.
    • Update all   thanks to the workshop manual, it lead me back to checking fuses as mentioned central locking and door open lights worked when acc was switched on. diagram attached shows two points of power 1. ACC and 2.  Batt with the later being fused (#28) I did check the fuses using a multimeter but I must have stuffed that up also. Went back and checked the batt fuse in interior fuse box and you wouldn’t believe it… a blown fuse. replaced fuse and everything is now working as it should including the climate control   thank you all with your positive insight and knowledge.
    • Where is the warning "That this thread is super old"   I just went into a 5 year old thread, went to do a reply, and couldn't see anywhere obvious a warning of it being super old
    • Duncan is correct. Pitwork (and Toyota's own cheap brand "Drive Joy") were primarily created as brands to sell other manufacturers car parts. It would be weird if Nissan sold parts for Toyota vehicles with a Nissan logo on it, so they created Pitwork to sell parts for other brans Toyota, Honda etc. They are not the same as Nissan genuine parts, although they *do* meet Nissan's standards for replacement parts. They aren't supposed to be a substitute for genuine parts, but a cheaper alternative that is better than Ebay fake parts from you-know-where.
