Hey guys,

Thought id share with you all about something that happened to me today.

So im at work and decided drive out to buy some lunch. I bought my lunch and then headed back.

So im sitting at the traffic light and when it turned green, i pressed the accelerator and basically nothing happened. The car then began to move very slowly, by this time my foot was floored on the pedal.

The car felt extremely sluggish and took like ~6seconds to reach 60km/h. I also noticed that the RPM seemed it would not exceed 2500-3000.

I immediately thought to myself that the car was in limp mode. I eventually got back to work and parked the car and turned it off, hoping that it would somehow reset the issue. I turned the car back on and decided to drive it again to see if the issue fixed itself, it didnt. I floored the car and the fastest speed i could get out of it was 80km/hour.

So i drove it back to work, and spent the rest of my afternoon all depressed and shit thinking about what the issue might be and how much to fix it etc.

Spent alot of that time researching on limp mode etc on the internet. A common fix i saw was to clean the MAF sensor.

So end of work came and i went back out to the car. Decided to try and rev it in neutral to see if it was responsive or not and if it was try and fiddle around with the MAF sensor.

I turned the ignition on and went to shift it from Park into Neutral and this was what i saw...

I turned it off and my car was magically back to normal!

Got the biggest smile on my face driving home.

Do you guys know what this mode is for? Do you think i could have damaged the engine by driving it the way i did with snow mode on?

yeah its for driving in snow or icy conditions. i dont know much about it but i think it starts you in 2nd gear from a standstill

Yes the snow button limits your revs and you can only go a certain amount of speed,

Does anyone know what models were offered these or were they a factory added option? Wish i had one or do they only come with the auto?

i know a bloke who dyno'd his R33 GTS-T sedan (auto) at a dyno day and was devastated when it only put out 63rwkw.

there was much embarassment and head scratching.

worked out later it had the snow button turned on hahah.

Mine has this. I use it in bumper to bumper traffic on the M2... probably not what its intention was for but it works well as it restricts me purposefully flooring it, which I tend to do, and reaching the car in front earlier than intended. Having said that, if I press the accelerator down 100%, it will provide full power.

I'll add a bit of interesting info to this. V35/Z33/PM35 and most of the other modern Nissan ECUs can hold up to 5 different ECU Maps. The snow function is just one of these maps, so what you are doing is in effect switching the ECU from one map to another. In UPREV, you can see what the details are for these individual maps. Example - I can see in the electronic throttle table, different values for the snow v normal mapping.

Now using the cruise control buttons it is possible to switch though these maps if you have set them up with Uprev. Failing having Cruise, you may in fact be able to set up the snow map as a valet mode, or track tune, or higher rev limit etc. I haven't tried it out, but should work.

Sounds like a cheap 'valet mode' option for those that don't have Uprev+C/C. :)

PN-Mad I've enquired about changing maps with Uprev USA and it's only possible through the Cruise Control system. If your car doesn't come with it, it can be changed via laptop only, or installing into an aftermarket cruise control system. So I don't think changing the sports/snow mode will work.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
