Ive just got my R32gtst 3 weeks ago. Completely stock, now i hav a full 3' exhaust with a high flow cat.

Im gonna hit Calder drags in the next few weeks and just wondering wat u guys hav found to b the best way to launch ? So far ive tried keeping the revs at about 3500rpm the dumping the clutch the car just bogs, but wen i feather the accelerator at 3000rpm then dump the clutch gets a bit of wheel spin but i do manage to stay on the ass of my mates MR2 turbo (mid mounted engine) untill we hit 2nd then i pull away a bit.

So im just wondering if there's anyone out there that has figuerd out the best way to launch there skyline ?? in particularly the 32.

P.s anybody got any clues on wat i should be doing down the 1/4 ? i have 225's on the rear.

cheers

Try attaching it to a rocket!

Just kidding!

Depends heaps on your clutch, suspension setup and tyres.

If you don't mind burning your clutch a bit just slip it a little until your away while realeasing the handbrake to limit wheel spin. Don't let the revs go below about 5000rpm.

Stock clutch will probulary fry.

Let me know when you are going, im new to Melb and havent been to Calder, and want to run my car as well. Im thinking the first week or two of July.

As for launching unless you are looking to replace your clutch then id take it easy and only briefly ride the clutch with about a 3.5-4k launch, .I would rather go 0.2-0.4seconds slower knowing im looking after my clutch then cook my clutch just to a fraction of a second quicker...

As for times, i suppose a flat 14 for a car with exhaust woudl be a realistic goal.

i ran a 14.1 in a r32gts-t with exhaust and air filter. using crappy 215 40 17s with street pressure.

The bets way i found of launching was holding the handbrake when staged and hold the car on biting point with boost all ready built up so you have some real power to get off of the line try 4k rpm with this launch then go higher slipping clutch out. but be careful your clutch gets hot and also gearboxes are quite weak so upgrade to r33 box if going to drag a lot.

Thanks John

hey dude

i have a r32 gtst aswell

for me if i have good tyres on its a 4k dump... foot to the floor, i get just that little bit of wheel spin,

but i dnt have the power to keep it spinning... mines pretty stock

if i dont have alot of tread then its a 3500k launch

but if u want what i reckon is the best launch, just ride the hell out fo your clutch, kinda hard to do

i need to ride it without moving forwards

so rip the handbrake up, ride the clutch so boost builds and let the handy down as u take off

    • Yep that is correct. It allows you to adjust the short throw range from what I can tell
    • Car has been running great, I've put about 300km's of break in time on it. First thing that stands out with properly sealing rings is no more noticeable crankcase smell coming out of my catch can. This may seem insignificant, but the constant smell while driving around was infuriating. It's also nice to see my oil level remain stable. Two new issues have developed that I only noticed this weekend though. There's a very noticeable driveline vibration past 100kmh. I only noticed it now as I've been babying it under 100kmh in the backroads. This comes as no surprise as I'm running a one-piece shaft, and I paid zero attention to my driveshaft angle when I put everything back in. I also have a fair bit of voltage drop on hot starts. The starter audibly is forcing. No issues on cold start though. I must not have removed all the paint under my main block ground during assembly. I'll try and take care of both those issues this week once the kids are asleep.  I also received all the parts I was missing for my direct port setup. I will hopefully have pictures of that up soon. I'm hoping to get back on the dyno the week of June 30th as I'll be on vacation. I'm confident I should be able to make north of 500rwkw on pump gas and WMI. I'll go back again later this summer with E98, but I want to confirm my ethanol content sensor is working properly first. I've never seen it read anything but 11%. This makes sense for our 10% ethanol content pump gas here, but I would expect the occasional movement between fill ups.
    • 75% complete. Will now need to get a new axle with 5x114.3 hubs and then figure out how to customize some mudguards for it once the wheels are on.
    • Trailer prep is underway... Lined up the wheel to get a rough indication of how it would sit Then removed all the bits (as far as possible) and gave the frame a light sand and quick lick of paint   Then added some carpet
    • okay, so I figured this out, removed needles and reinstalled after swapping the gauge face on my triple gauge for my ER34, all work and look good. I tried to do the same for the main cluster, but the main cluster gauge faces are dished, the replacement gauge face are flat, so due to the dish in the org face ,mounting backing plate (clear) and depth of the needle, the flat gauge face will not work. I notice that R34 gtr gauges are flat, appears to be different clear backing plate that aren't dished. are these available, or what have others done to install flat gauge faces?
