Hi I suspect I have a faulty EBC but not sure, just ironing out the bugs with this car since I have purchaced it

here is the hardware involved

Gizzmo MS-2 EBC

GCG High Flow turbo

Stock ECU

Engine full rebuild around 10,000km ago (decked and o-ringed)

With the MS-2 off always boosts to 7psi without fail, I can up the duty cycle (0-100) upto about 50 without any changes, between 50 and 65 raises nicely upto 11psi , above that I get nothing and hard pulls in 3rd or 4th gear I occasionally get drops back to 7 psi, no matter how high I raise the duty above 65 the boost will not raise any higher than 11 psi.

I started messing with the gain and got a nice point around 50% where I like it but tried it at 70 to force some short overboosting and sure enough it will spike briefly to around 16psi ......

I am guessing the solenoid is faulty but is there something else I should be checking? I am aiming for around 14psi .....or is it the stock wastegate sticking? Not sure how far I can go on the stock one or what else could be causing it. I have no idea of the age of the MS-2 I have been told its approx 18 months installed by a professional by the last owner but the lines were cable tied onto the solenoid and were not even trimmed lol.

Regardless of whether there is actually a problem with your EBC, you do know that you shouldn't really be aiming for high boost levels with a stock ECU don't you? Especially with a highflow turbo. The ECU could well be cauing your inability to gain more boost be shutting down the engine's power through R&R.

Oh, and trhere's nothing wrong with cable ties for vacuum/boost hoses. They nip up nice and tight.

found out what the issue was, it was configured for "open" mode, switched to "Closed" and it all works as it should, no idea of the difference between these 2 tbh, the manual is terrible and makes no sense.

might not be stock ECU after a bit more playing today as it will boost to 15psi without fuel cut, ah the joys of second hand car buying, no idea of the prievious mods ....

And Jez I eventually will, just working out my options of a custom tune, but thats a discussion for another thread

    • If you are Ecutek tuned then these TCU tunes are anywhere from $550 to $700 usd. If you are not ECUTEK tuned, then it gets costly!
    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
