nmcmahon83
Hey guys, Unfortunately, last night I hit a gutter in the wet, and my front left wheel has seen better days. It looks as though the suspension is all bent and I couldnt even drive it home as the wheel is unsiure which way it should be pointing :ghost: While I am upset and the like, life has to go on and now I need to get it fixed. I'm sure i'm not the only person who has ever lost to the curb, and I was wondering just how much this is going to cost me to get fixed. I'm guessing I need my front left suspension rebuilt, possibly the steering arm is bent too. (can't tell at this stage). The only positive side out of it is that I didn't sustain any panel damage as I wasn't travelling particularly fast, just a dud roundabout, wet road, little bit of stupidity mixed in for an expoensive ****tail of lesson learnt. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks. P.s. anyone got a stocker rim going cheap!? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41990-ouch/ Share on other sites

knore
Ahhh the dreaded gutter. Almost EVERYONE runs their skyline into a gutter of sum sort during their life. I did Mine doesnt sound as back as yours is tho. How hard did you hit it? Mine was expensive tho because at the time my front bar was really low, so ofcourse the entire front bar was ripped off which in turn cracked my headlights and moved my two front quarter panels. I didnt do any suspension damage thanks to my hard teins All up mine was about $2k to fix, but this included some other things like a full buff and polish of the car, new front bar.. etc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41990-ouch/#findComment-859671 Share on other sites
Lepperfish
WHo knows how much damage you have done without seeing it. You could be up for a new steering rack, shock absorber, spring ect, steering arm is most likely bent.. possibly over 600-700 ? sno33
hmmmmms, the exact same thing happened 2 me like 3 weeks ago and also sounds like around the same amount of damage, cost me 1300 but my rims still kinda buckled.... so its not 2 sturdy at high speeds? knore
LoL a buckled rim is not very safe to be driving on man A new contol arm is about $200 tops, new strut maybe $500 etc from how it sounds, it will be over a grand best thing u can do is take it to a good panel shop or suspension specialist IE fulcrum Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41990-ouch/#findComment-859684 Share on other sites
MattSR
I hit a gutter in my Honda at 40km/h.. When I looked at the damage, I was sure it would cost 2-3k to fix. Smash repairer rang the other day, and it cost closer to $10k.. Thank god for insurance Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41990-ouch/#findComment-859685 Share on other sites

nmcmahon83
yea i was thinking around a grand aswell... i have no idea how i didnt rip the front bar off/smash side skirts etc, but somehow, its just the front left completely farked. By the sounds of it, im in good company though. i was expecting to be mocked and berated but then i realised it was a skyline site hehe Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41990-ouch/#findComment-859691 Share on other sites

marchGTR
I smacked one of those big gutters in St Kilda when I had my GTST. I hit it pretty hard, although didnt buckle my wheel. I bend the lower control arm. It cost me $200 to get it fixed. so maybe it wont be too much if your lucky. boj01
depending on what is bent, if you know the right places to look it won't cost too much. control arm- $195 sway bar link - $30 radius rod - $95 radius rod mount - $50 strut + spring - $150 steering rack end - $110 r33 standard rim - $80 so for parts you will be looking at $700. if you can install all the stuff your self (isnt that hard!) it should be a cheap fix!
