Plans For The Car + Any Advice/suggestions Welcomed!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

Just thought i'd give you guys a run down on my plans! Just see what you guys think and weather or not there good bad ideas.

So i purchased a R34 GTT a few months back, it's stock not a thing done to it. Had a banged up fender (Have a new one already, to lazy to put it on) and bonnet. I bought a Carbon-fiber bonnet from JustJap.com one the GTR style one, to fix the bonnet problems, unfortunately the bonnet u-bolt latch was to short even after extending the bolt holes and raising the locking mechanism (Justjap refunded me some money to get it fixed, As mine was worse than any in there stock) After applying bungee cords, and holding it down to go get the U-bolt welded longer the bonnet did the worst and blow backwards. Needless to say the bonnet now sits in a dump at the tip and my car needed a new windshield and roof as a few dents that need to be removed!

Now i've always liked the idea of getting an EastBear kit and giving it the aggressive look of a GTR, and after the bonnet incident i'm leaning towards going with it. This being said, i'm going away on work for a few months, so i'll be saving some money and when i get back i'll get back into doing it up so here are my main plans.

- Eastbear kit (Or should i keep it stock kit, and go with another Carbon-fiber bonnet)

- FMIC + Boost controller (Plus putting the boost up abit!)

- Resprayed Midnight Purple or Polar white (Stock color)

- LMGT4's 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 (If i can find a pair, If not I've been looking ROTA GridR's)

- Coilovers (Unsure of which brand)

- BOV (GFB Dual port)

- Boost controller

- New turbo timer

- NIStune ECU

- Dumppipe (Thats all the exhaust is missing)

- Splitfire coilpacks

- Bigger injectors (Not sure of branding again)

Now here is where i need your help, where in Launceston would be the best place to get work done? Been told Boost Automotive is good, and the previous owner had talks with them about the car.

Painting a car? I have no idea where are good and which to avoid

Plus just any suggestion or changes you'd make to the list, as I'm new to the skyline scene and the turbo scene to tell the truth!

Cheers in advance for any advice/help!

QM1 paint is easy for any panel beater to spray. But if certain panels are weathered, it'll be best if the workshop can paint sample cards for you to inspect and blend so you can then decide the colour of "best fit"

Midnight Purple was a R33 GT-R colour.

MP2 and MP3 are R34 colours.

All MP colours will require the absolute best of painters - particularly MP2 & MP3.

And some people have had a terrible problem matching up their MP3 skirts and pods with the rest of the body.

I knew it wouldn't be an easy task getting the midnight purple, When i'm back i'll go ask around and see what there is. I didn't want to stick to white simply because so many skylines are white! I believe i've seen one midnight purple R34 in Tasmania I'm sure there is probably more. But i just want it to stand out abit more, even to those who aren't car savvy ;)

I thought about Matte Black, but the upkeep on that is intense. Any suggestions on great painters around Tasmania? I don't having to travel to get a good job done. Its only little old Tasmania anyway, everything is a stones throw away ;)

MP2 and MP3 are they paint codes? Or the style of paint used, As i wasn't entirely sure of the paint code for midnight purple

Rule one... what ever you think it's going to cost- double it.

Rule two... how ever long you think it will take tripple it.

Stick with repairs and white paint... waaaay cheaper and waaaay quicker. Otherwise just sell the car and buy one in the colour you want.

Brad at boost automotive will be your best bet up that way.

BC coilovers are good for the money

You won't need bigger injectors with the stock turbo... I would sugest installing a new fuel pump though (deatschwerks dw400 will drop straight in)

Talk to the person who is going to tune the car before you go buying anything.

Factory styles kits, the right stance and wheels allways looks better than lairy body kits and half arsed paint. As for a Easbear GTR conversion.... just buy a GTR- It'll cost less and you'll end up with a much better car.

Cheers

Thanks for the imput!

I see your point about selling the car and buying one in the color i want, But i don't feel the satisfaction in doing that, I know i personally won't be painting the car but its still something I've changed about my car. The bigger injectors was suggested by the pervious owner who got told to get bigger ones by Boost Automotive, but i'll bear that in mind! Fuel pump didn't even cross my mind, thanks for that!

After looking into it more after making the post last night, i decided to stick with the stock kit. I'll buy a GTR one day (hopefully)

When i get back, i was planning on going into Boost and talking with them before i buy anything ofcourse, NIStune say use Condifyne Motorsport or Tasmanian mobile Mechanics to tune the ECU. But i've been told Boost can do it and so can Prospeed up at prospect?

Exactly what Justin said..

It always costs more.

And are the coil packs an issue? Otherwise save your money there.

Thought of vinyl wrapping?

As far as i'm aware they're not, again just going off what the previous owner had talked to Boost Automotive about. That will save me some money then :D!

I know it's going to cost alot but, aslong as i'm happy with it and i don't put myself in debt I don't mind to much about the price

Paint Codes:-

LP2 - Midnight Purple (on R33 GT-Rs)

LV4 - Midnight Purple II

LX0 - Midnight Purple III

All are glorious colours.

I seem to go for LV4 most of all.

I'm having trouble getting photos of the different paintcodes. Wouldn't happen to know where i can get see the differences between them at all?

    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
