So, I've been chasing a HICAS issue off and on for a few weeks, and I am having no luck. I have an R32 GTS-4, but I'm using a GTR manual for wiring and I don't think they are similar at all. I was wondering if anyone has either a GTS-4 or GTS-T manual for download or that you can send me. I have checked every link on all of the main Skyline websites, and had no luck. Either the links are to a GTR manual (which I already have) or they are dead links from 10 years ago.

I also tried to do the self diagnostic, and it doesn't work. I'm leaning towards a steering angle sensor for that issue, and my speedometer for HICAS/power steering getting heavy while driving since it's completely incorrect (it's not in MPH or KPH). But like I said, the wiring isn't the same and I can't accurately shoot the steering angle sensor for voltages to check if it's bad.

My R33 had a similiar problem hicas light on,no power steering, found there was a couple of leaking capacitors in the hicas computer, had them replaced by the local tv repair man, problem fixed.

Well, right now it's a possible toss-up as to the solution to my problem. I'm getting very strange readings for the steering angle sensor, so I'm sort of leaning towards that considering I'm also unable to enter diagnostic mode (the remedy for which I've heard is VERY likely to be steering angle sensor related). It could also be the speedometer as it's reading incorrectly, but I don't know. I just wanted to see how different the wiring is between the two, because I've heard (and also seen first hand) that the GTS-4 and GTS-T use the same HICAS system, while the GTR had "Super HICAS".

I'm just trying to ensure I'm shooting the correct wires before I start ordering more useless parts and wasting my money. I've already ordered a speed sensor only to find out it didn't help at all.

Jiffo, I'm not looking at 4WD, I'm looking at HICAS which are two completely different systems. 4WD is the engine power going to all four tires, HICAS is four wheel steering. I know I'm fairly new to the Skyline, but I'm not a complete idiot considering I read wiring diagrams and shoot wires every day for my job (using PDF files, ironically).

Right now, I'm thinking it's 75% chance of steering angle sensor and 25% speed inputs being jacked up. I want to make sure it's 100% of one and 0% the other.

Appreciate that, but if you look at the wiring diagram mentioned, it shows the HICAS computer and wiring, all on the same diagram.

when i got my gtst the hicas light was on constantly

fixed by taking the steering wheel off and lining up the dot on the inside of the wheel with the one on the column (werent aligned before) when i reconnected the battery no more constant hicas light!

Jiffo, besides the fact that those diagrams were scanned horribly, it still doesn't show me pins on the steering angle sensor. Again, they are different in the other diagrams I've used from the GTR manual than on my car. Besides the fact that in the diagrams it shows eight pins (mine has 6, which I cannot be for sure, but maybe those were airbag wires or something), I've confirmed two of the wires are switched from the GTR manual to my car. From what I've gathered, the GTS-T and GTS-4 used a slightly different HICAS system than the GTR. This is why I want to acquire one of the other manuals to be sure. Considering the strange readings I've been getting, I think the wiring is different. It's just a way of being redundant and making sure everything is right before I waste more money chasing problems that might not actually exist.

Hicas light comes on maybe five minutes after I start driving, which is also when the power steering gets heavy. It's almost the exact same place every day. It's one reason I originally thought the speedometer. The strange thing is I don't remember having this problem when I got it, and the speed has always been wrong. So now I'm leaning towards steering angle sensor, considering I can't enter diagnostic mode, and I'm getting such strange readings. Again, I'm just trying to be redundant and verify before wasting time and money on nonexistent problems.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
