Hey guys,

I have a R32 GTR with the stock headunit but i am looking to upgrade to something that works. (Stock headunit buttons etc light up when car lights are on ( gets power) but i cannot get the head unit to 'turn on')

I have been looking at Mechless Head Units because i prefer to not carry CD's around, but i am not looking for something flashy and it appears that most of the standard ones are brightly lit or do not allow for display colour to be changed.

Does anyone have any ideas of a Mechless Head Unit that is stockish looking / non-neon sign looking but allows for display colour customisation (want to match colour with rest of dash lights)

Dreaming?

I was hunting for one last year and there were only several worthwhile options I could find, but there seem to be a lot more on the market now. Most try to squeeze as much into them as possible but charge premiums.

Settled with the IDA-X303, and its a good unit but a bit pricey when you dont use the bluetooth functions.

Try hunting for retro/vintage mechless player, might find stuff similar to: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USA-4-DIN-RADIO-RETRO-STYLE-CAR-STEREO-AUSSIE-DEALER-/281113473349?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4173ab3145

I like the basic look of this headunit.. however the bright red buttons etc are my concern

Are you aware of any headunits that look similar, but allow for colour changes?

Kenwood KMM-U256. $110. not flashy, plays FLAC, runs Iphone audio apps and its cheap.

want one - inbox me.

Yeah i looked at this headunit yesterday, but I think its alittle more than I want to spend.

However, It does look nice.

what color do you need it to be? given the market you are in (under $200) color changes are out of the question. raise the bar to $275 for a Kenwood KDC7056BT and you can do colors and a LOT more. I have stock.

What to match the head unit with the stock dash lights... so the colour would be a light grey to almost white.

But then again.. I am not sitting in my car right now so could be slightly wrong on the colour

I will do some research on the Kenwood KDC7056BT and let you know... I will PM you directly.

Thank for the info

Some headunits have adjustable colours (LCD and buttoms) and Also have a dimmer wire which you can wire in to your light switch.

For a simple design though and fair price, try this unit from Jaycar.

Yes you can set the buttons and display to the color of your choice.

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
