Dose Pipe Sutututu
Yeah I was cautious about that as I've heard these are "interference" motors as they're known so I didn't move anything. I'm just concerned I might have damaged the VCT cam gear/sprocket using a rattle gun. Must admit, I gave it a good 3 or so seconds before the bolt starting moving Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/426816-possible-vct-damage-how-to-test-vct-operation/page/2/#findComment-6888276 Share on other sites
Ben C34
well, the reason you are ment to secure the cam, is so you do not bend a valve. doing up the nut with the camshaft unsecured won't bend a valve though, that would only happen if the cam turns. ( without the crank turning) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/426816-possible-vct-damage-how-to-test-vct-operation/page/2/#findComment-6888768 Share on other sites
Dose Pipe Sutututu
This is really funny, anyhow I'll share how I fixed my VCT. So I tried disconnecting it and feeding direct current into it and to m surprise no change in idle, i.e. the damn thing is constantly advanced by 10 degrees. So I thought, what if I drive it it constantly unplugged for a while, surely it might eventually pop back to no advance right? So off I went all weekend driving around with it unplugged, till the car became doughy as bat shit... (what a relief, no need to strip down the motor again!) Plugged up the VCT, and bam.. car is back to normal! I'm guessing either because I rattle gunned it's mum off and on I might have pushed it past it's rotational limits or so, OR there might have been air pockets in the sprocket when I reinstalled it.. either way, it's working now! 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/426816-possible-vct-damage-how-to-test-vct-operation/page/2/#findComment-6893151 Share on other sites

Dose Pipe Sutututu
hahaha, I think it's because I grew up with wogs.. It simply means I went hard out trying to get the bolt off with a impact wrench.
