A couple of nights ago I went to the video shop for about 5 minutes and came out to find my window smashed in (and about $2000 worth of stuff gone). When it happened, they must have done it with a fair bit of force as the passenger window had flown all the way over to the driver's side of the glove box and as it did, it sliced the plasticy door lining at the top. Apart from replacing the inside of the door, is there a way I'd be able to fix this? It hasn't actually sliced all the way through, so it looks like a very deep scratch. I guess what I'm after is something that would fill the scratch in. Anyone know of anything?

Also, has something happened to Famous? I've tried calling twice now and I can't seem to get through to them. I even left my number and they haven't called back.

Now I've just got to vent a little about these damn thieves. You can stop reading here :) This incident has cost me thousands as I'm pretty sure I'm not covered for most of the contents in my car (half of them weren't mine, so I can't claim them) and the actual damage to the car will probably be less than the excess. I would have preferred it if they just waited at my car and asked me for cash. The stuff they took can't even be sold, so they've only got about $200 out of the whole damn thing.

Bastards.

Multiple things that added up to 2K. Things like prescription sunglasses (I suppose the thief could go an get the lenses changed to sell haha), a locked out mobile phone (does anyone NOT permanently bar the phone and cancel the credit on it? Why do they still steal them?), a camera that needs a special charger and connector that cannot be bought in Australia (that was the big one) and a few other things. Nothing particularly interesting, but they're all useless to the thief and useful to me.

Adam, I asked them if they had one, but unfortunately they don't. They've got it in their shop that slightly captures the footpath outside, but it wasn't hooked up that night apparently.

boj01 - Thanks. I'll check them out as soon as I get the car back from the glass ppl. This happened outside the Civic Video at the Adamstown shops. I always thought it was pretty safe there to be honest. I've lived in Adamstown my whole life and parked my Skyline there for years now.

MIC33R,

Haven't I seen you driving in around Kempsey and Port. Adamstown is a long hike to work dude.

I drive the stock looking white R33 with the 3 spoke rims.

Let me know about Famous too as I have my insurance with them. If they go bust with my money They better find a safe place to hide.

Thats f&$ked about ya car too dude. Junky's and P#$%ks like that need to put in a room with a bunch of people who ahve had similar experiences and see how they like there own internal property taken from them (liver, kidneys, stuff like that) that can be sold over the internet to pay excesses and for unclaimable items.

they better pray I don't cathem doin it to my car or thay will end up like Zed..

And where is Zed.. Zed's dead!!!

Cheers,

J-Flash :P

Can't say I've been to Kepsey recently, but my car has been there before - you might have seen me then. I'm usually just cruising around Newcastle.

If I see your white R33 around I'll give you a wave :)

I'm going to give Famous a call a bit later today, so I'll let you all know how it goes. I doubt I'll even use them for this claim though, as it's just the window that can be claimed and that's under the excess.

And yes, ALL thieves should have what you said done to them if they get caught in the act. No exceptions ;)

P1E and Hail - yeah I just thought I'd be in there for 5 mins and didn't think I needed to take it all inside with me.

All my stuff was on the floor of the passenger seat btw, and my tinting is so damn dark you can barely see in during the daytime. I think they just smashed it hoping that there was something inside. They couldn't have seen my stuff.

thats true, but again he would of been thinking im going inside to buy a vid...wat can happen in 5minz.

Bad luck dude, thieves should have their hands cut off.

Dude, never leave shit in your car, particularly in town, even for 5 mins, so many people I know have had their windows smashed and stuff taken, even when they just went inside for a minute or two and that's what they always say 'it was just for a minute' well these dudes will strike in that minute and then bang, there goes your laptop or whatever.

Thanks for the tip Terreto. It's something I've always known, but I never thought I'd have my car broken into since it hasn't ever happened before. I'll be a tad more careful in the future.

BTW Adamstown is a quiet suburb of Newcastle, so I wasn't even in a particularly busy part of town. I guess I just got unlucky. I hear about people having their cars broken into in town quite often, but not in the suburbs.

    • Not really, but the heater box is pretty simple mechanically....if the door is one way the air bypasses the heater core and if it is the other way it goes through it for warm air.  If you are sure the actuator you moved manually is for the heater mix (there would also be one for output air direction) then I'd take the heater box out and see what is happening (you'll have to regass and re-coolant the systems afterwards) BTW pp724 onwards from the GTR workshop manual cover the system in good detail, it is probably worth checking. I think the IAT sensor might be a problem electrically for getting cold (if you got 24 error code not -24 it thinks the incoming air is -50c) and it covers how to test the sensor (although most likely it is either not plugged in or a wire is damaged)
    • Use the GKTech subframe bush and bring your subframe 10mm closer to the chassis. You'll need to fix an exhaust hanger to suit. One of the best mods I've done.
    • You'd really have to pull it apart further to know, it least you can be confident that the one heading to the back is not connected any more. There was once a ground on the shifter seal mount too, your head unit issue could be that simple
    • Perfect, I'll get to it this winter then at the same time as I weld on my anti squat kit.
    • Alright so my 32 only has one temperature no matter what degree you set it to. I’ve tried disconnecting the servo motor arm and moving it either direction and got no change. I’ve fixed the leak in my AC and re charged it and with it on and clutch engaged it still blows hot even though the low pressure pipe going to the firewall is ice cold. Both heater core hoses are hot while running as well. Diagnostic code showed 24 for intake air temperature sensor. Anybody got any ideas?
