I would be surprised if Richards just "let" Button walk. I would think that there was a "pull back" clause in Button's contract that Williams have exercised. As for sacking JV I don't blame him. If you remember JV was being paid $US30m for his last season with BAR thanks to some extortion from his manager/mate Craig Pollock of which he got a healthy percentage one could assume. He was given the alternative of "renegotiating" his contract for 03 to something a little more realistic but refused. He then got sacked!!!Surprise, surprise. After that display I doubt you will see JV in a F1 car again. In any case he ain't that great. He can win in a great car, so what!!! Champions win in cars that aren't so great. The battle between Button and Webber next year should be something!!!!

from the worst kept secret (Webber to williams) to the one of the best kept secrets (Button to willaims). Its the all commonwealth team next year at Williams. Geez those two ITV commentators are going to luv button even more now :)

"Oh, da Matta is gooonnnnne! That's good cause Briscoe is now official test driver as Zonta is promoted to driver for the remainder of 04." - Silver ArrowZ FANTASTIC NEWS I'd just luv to see two Aussie's racing in F1 in 06, might just be a possibily by the looks of things

We've got some real F1 heads here dont we, so whos going to the race next year?

I've got my money saved for tickets, and I got the materials for my sign. Can anyone think of a good supportive message to Mark for it. So far all I got is:

Printed over the BMW emblem:

Bravo

Mark

Webber

How did the media miss this? Id say this would be one of the most suprising driver changes in along time and it will make for a very exciting webber vs button fight next year. I just wonder what the reason behind it is? It will be interesting to hear JBs reasons because if anything BAR are more likley than not going to be a stronger team over the next seasons or two compared to Williams.

Is this a step sideways? if so its a little strange. Also you would think at BAR button is the absolute #1 driver. Also strange to walk away from that.

Like I said before I don't think Button had much choice!!! Previously someone said that BAR has bought his contract from Frank Williiams. I wasn't aware of that, not saying its untrue though. But if that is not the case it would explain his sudden departure to Williams. Frank must think that he is "ready" to go hard at the championship next year. Certainly a much better line up than this year for Williams, at least. Now let's just hope they can make a great car to take it up to the red thing!!!!!!

Well, well, well! Looks like Mr Richards was kept in the dark about this and now he's fuming. He's issues JB and manager an ultimatum. Face to face meeting by Monday afternoon or they're in breach of their contract.

The plot thickens..... What's the clause within the contract that JB and manager think they can get out of BAR???

from what i hear its to do with the Honda contract, Honda have resigned with BAR but they have a get out clause apparently so its not 100% solid.

wish Id seen this thread earlier.

Weber is the man, one of the only guys on the grid who is soley there because of what he can do, no the dollars he brings.

lets not also forget how that CLK merc kept flipping out on him at 300+km's.

give him 5 years and he will be a true contender

5 years? if you are talking about Mark Webber he will probably be retiring in 5 years. Id say give it 6 months. You dont often get 5 years to get up to speed in F1 these days.

JV was a champion, prolly the only one who took it to M$ and beat him, prior to BAR that was. Also, remember that the BAR Honda of the past few years was shite, and you're onl now starting to see the results of the millions of $$$s worth of R&D.

Button wont go (or be allowed to go) that easily..it's gonna be a huge legal wrangle.

Yes, there are reports Mika is in discussion with BAR, but to be honest, I'd be very suprised if he went from a 3 year sabbatical, STRAIGHT BACK into an F1 car.

A lot has changed in those 3 years, for him, as well as the sport itself.

Webber I believe, will get 3 seasons MAX to deliver a WDC to Williams. Frank Williams and Patrick Head are the biggest hard asses in F1, and they never allow their drivers to fail to deliver, which would explain the 'relative ease' in which they got rid of Ralph and JPM.

I believe they have a decent package for '05 - and with Webber, and more than likely, Button, they can give Williams it's first WDC since JV in 1997.

Button to Williams, while not 100% confirmed, will happen. No such thing as a "bind proof" contract anymore .. money always wins out, and there are always ways n means of getting out of any contract. In my oppinion, Takuma will stay at #1 driver for BAR Honda next season, and I am sure Anthony Davidson will go to #2 driver.

Personally, seeing Button, arguably BAR Honda's best driver, in the short few years they've been in F1, leave the team, the way he has, is heartbreaking.

I would like to either Nick Heidfeld, or Jarno Trulli step up to BAR tho.

  • 3 weeks later...

Yeah, cause Raikkonen had to contend with more rain.

Money is on Schuey though. Hard to beat him in the wet. I wish something happens and a Mac goes in for a win. I want to see Ron Dennis win that bet and the jounalist streak. :P

Was dissapointed in the race, for the simple reason the race wasn't restarted after the first (major) crash...it's usually at the race steward's discretion, but they should have really.

The amount of punctures (thanks to the carbon shrouds) really pissed me off too, more so for the simple fact that the FIA has, for years, been saying they are going to implement procedures (ie coating cf in resin to prevent splintering) for preventing carnage damaging other cars, but they still haven't...When JB went off, I turned off..

Only three more races before Coulthard is goooooooone!!!  Don't think his latest effort trying to overtake Klien will have many team owners drooling.  You might be in with a chance Kel!!

Coulthard was robbed by tyre probs, and that accident was all Kleins fault, where does he get off...at the bust stop or something :gaga:

Wow, that other bloke has now won, what 3 GPs, :flamer:

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
