Hi Guys,

Did a search with no luck (maybe I am doing it wrong).

Turbo gave out on the Stagea last night

Only 7,000k's into owning it, the car is still under warranty and the turbo is covered for failure.

I have rung the company and they have put me onto their nearest repairers, but they are all closed for a few weeks over the Xmas period (timing sucks!).

I have already accepted the fact I am going to have a public transport christmas but I would like to get the car back sooner rather than later!

The warranty company then suggested that I find my own repairer and supply them with a quote.

I have heard that these cars are notoriously difficult to work with, so I am after some of your hard earned experience.

Who would you recommend for this repair in the south eastern suburbs (I'm out in sunny Pakenham)?

Thanks in advance guys!

A workshop may charge upwards of 5k, perhaps more if they want to drop the engine, how much will the warranty cover?

I would be your best bet, but it depends if the insurance company is willing to deal with me, they may require a fully qualified mechanic, insurance, factory premises etc.

What are you hoping to get done in that time frame? I have a replacement S/H turbo here I could swap in for you, a Hypergear highflow may take 2 months this time of year... I may be able to get a Precision turbo down from Sydney, as I have one on the shelf waiting, but it may not get here till after Christmas...

I will be very surprised if the warranty company comes to the party with $5k; I had a window regulator replaced under warranty, and of the $900 total they covered $500.

I suspect you are about to become one of the long list of people to discover that these warranties aren't even worth the paper they are written on.

That said; I wish you every success.

Scotty is definitely your man if/when you go forward, you would do well to INSIST any repairer you engage, speaks to Scotty about this job first.
They will say they know what they're doing; most won't. Turbo selection is CRITICAL.

If the warranty goes south once they discover the scale of the job; go straight to Scotty.

    • I've got a 2011 J50 that I imported six years ago. The unmodified factory AV system date and time has always been correct ( Japanese timezone of course ) up until last month. About two weeks ago, at engine start, the system wished me a happy new year ( in Japanese of course ). I can't think of anything that would make the system think that the date had changed, unless the GPS component has failed/reset somehow ? I checked the GPS reception in the system settings, and it can still see the satellites. Has any other J50 owner had this happen ?  It's no biggie, just annoying that it tells me the wrong date anytime I start the engine. 😅
    • Love following your adventures on IG, hopefully if you're still around in Japan when we visit again wouldn't mind going for a few beers with you (that's if you're keen on hearing how I hate Nissans).
    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
