I asked this question yesterday but it was lost somewhere, maybe I posted it in the wrong area ,NA,

I am new to R3s GTR, have a 350GT Skyline import , I had a APS Twin Turbo System installed and it goes well for a dd.

I just bought a 99 R34 GTR, the car had mods from Croydon Racing Developments 5 years ago ,one thing they did that I do not understand they replaced the twin turbo system with a Greddy T78 single turbo, CRD seems to have a very good name in the business, so I guess they did it to get a better performance from the work they did.

Most of what I have read indicate a TT is better, why would they change to a single if a twin system is better and could have used the$s on some other mods.

But a few say that a big single on a straight line 6 is better, I have no idea and would like some people that know these cars to help me understand more about the R34, THANKS :/

PS always loved the Skylines and now I have one :D

I feel like a bit of a dummy on this site as I am sure you blokes ,well most of you know what you are talking about. ??

To be honest I do not really know what I want from this car until I get it home as it is being tuned today, I will not know what the power will be until they have it on the Dyno ,I am sure that around 600hp will keep it at a safe setting from what CRD said. I had my 350GT TT tuned to 350@whp and it is fun when you get a bit bad.

BUT from my test drive this car will be totally different in just about every way, except enjoyment.

Think I will have some fun driving back home with the OS Giken quad clutch 350Kls ,like the test drive there could be a few stalls and hops getting through Sydney on the 350K ride back home , i hope it has a good battery :)

The idea of power is nice but not everything. You read heaps about the R3s Skyline series and how well they handle and can be modified, I want to feel the car for myself, learn to drive it and enjoy it,

At this stage I am trying to understand the car and the modifications that have been made to it and the only way I know how to do this is drive it and ask questions .

I am not a car person in the real sense or a rev head but I have had many cars, I have been driving for 55 years, I enjoyed all of them, now I am moving to a different type of car, you only live once so do the things you want to do now!

Well as soon as she's off the dyno and and back home give us some details and pics and we should be able to help you with any drama's you may have.

Well it is off the Dyno and no real surpises, 338AWKW, they sure can crap when advertising cars and seem to get away with it, I am sure it will be enough for me and CRD said with some other mods. fuel system and cam it will be able to get much more as with the fuel system it has it will starve for fuel.

When I get it home I will take some pics and post them.

Think I will have a go at the interior if my back will let me, old upholsterer

car is great and have started to detail it and when it is finished I will take some shots, black shows everything!

It is good to be driving a manual again after 7 years, the Quad clutch is easy so as a DD it is good.

It has a T78 and I want better response earlier than around 5k. Dropping the clutch at high revs is not a good look around town, so I will need to go Twin Turbo unless there is something I can do with the T78, I am putting Tomei Poncams type B in, I have looked all over the web and I know someone will say" look some more" "this topic has been done to death" BUT the thing is everyone has a different opinion on brands and models. This is a Skyline site and I feel I will get the answer I need.

Systems like.

Nismo R1

TT 2860- 5,7, 9

GT 35R , SS

T618Z , T517Z

TS 172 and on and on. As a newbie I am confused.

As a DD I want the car to be responsive all the way but starting as early as possible.

The car has enough mods to handle power, well maybe except for the fuel delivery it has a Bosch 044 .

Any help welcomed.

I'm guessing your a slightly older dude... so here's my suggestions.

R34 N1 turbo's or the Garrett equivalent. to push decent average power, comes on early and will swing right out to 8k

If you want a bit more and don't mind loosing a little more down low then T517z 8cm (my personal fav) or Garrett -5's.

Greddy/HKS hard pipe it, ported stock manifolds, decent dump pipes etc...

330awkw that comes on early is a much faster car that a 400awkw lag monster on the street.

Cheers

Justin

Since you already have the car setup with a single why not just find a better/smaller single that bolts into where your current one is that will give you the power/response you are after

That makes way too much sense!

From what i can gather TT350GT is a bit impulsive and has cash to burn :)

Thanks for that I will have a look into it.

Is there one you could suggest

Yes, old Dude 71, but 21 inside

Thanks for the advice, it is hard when you know Sh@t all about something, at least I do not BS, just learning, never too old to learn.

The only DUMB A person is one that does not ask people that know what they are talking about. thanks again

Had some good info today :worship:

Maybe, I am here to get advise and I have had some great help today.

I want the car to do what I want and want to know how to do it, once I get as much info as I can then I can make a more informed choice.

What advice can you offer me

I didn't say that to try to offend you, sorry if I did.

I have already given you the advice of taking it easy for a bit and doing some research. if it takes another couple of weeks it will be worth it, both better and cheaper.

Thank for the input, now to make it easier for me. After a month of driving the car I know I will never use the set up I have.

If you can please give manufactures name and product # for turbos that gives me power early, 3K-ish or less if possible,

1. What is the best Single Turbo that will give me the response I am after

2. What is the best Twin Turbo system to give me the response I am after

Thanks Pete

The only thing that will get you response like that is -7's or a small single. How much power were you after again?

As the other guys have said, a precision 6262. It won't give you full boost by 3000rpm but it is pretty damn responsive for a single.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
