Hey,

Ok this question will seem lame in most people's eyes, but I was wondering how all you N/Aers approach drags. Obviously alot of people see a Skyline and assume its turbo. I know for a fact I'll get alot of commondore driver's revving their engines beside me at a traffic light in anticipation of a drag. I also know that I'd probably get smoked by the top V8s and of course turbo Skylines.

How do you approach a drag when someone is obviously challenging you. Do you back down and let them have their glory?

Of course this only applies if you are even into having small drags off the lights (which I guess alot of people won't). I personally don't think there is much harm in having short bursts at a traffic light.

hehe honestly....

i dont seem to get challenged that often.

Depends on the situation, late at night, very little traffic maybe ill have a go, but i wont if not under those circumstances.

If the car that wants to race is not a quick car then i never bother (e.g 1.6l Lancer with exhaust). If its a car that is worth racing or a car im quite sure ill lose too then ill have a go. Its always good to see where your car stands. And sometimes im quite surprised on how 34GTs go.

I hardly ever drag off a light because with our NA cars u really need to get a good launch, this means a 4 - 5rpm launch. Its usually very loud, has some wheelspin and will freak out other cars around u. In other words u look like a racer tool and it doesnt help the image of imports much. No other cars around then, ill have a go.

I usually prefer a 40km roll from 2nd gear. Less noisy, less effort and it doesnt seem to attract as much attention.

Also it REALLY depends on the guy im up against. If the guy acts like he will do anything to win etc. cut off OTHER people, weave uncontrolably in out of traffic, tailgate people to get them to swith lanes etc. then NO way will i have a go. a person who drives recklessly will drive even more recklessly when they think they are racing as well.

so to answer your question, i hardly ever drag another car. Only on those rare moments when u have a clear highway and u are up against a good car with a mature friendly driver who wont do anything stupid just to win a race. Those moments are very rare but when u get them u dont forgot it and whether u win or lose they remain fondly as 'good race'.

While im with alot of people here who beleive in keeping it off the streets, so to speak, there are still plenty of people who want a go. My options on all of these are as follows :

1)Riced up Lancers/Rio's/Corrolas etc. - Smile, Wave, let them try for all it matters, just roll smoothly away - they're not worth dying or worse crashing the 'line for.

2)Commodores in all shapes and forms - Read as above.

3)Other Skyline Drivers - Who cares? If your an enthusiast, you'll know how fast your car and it's rivals go (or don't go in some cases ;) ) give 'em the Big Thumbs Up  Move Quickly (and smoothly) away, so everyone else at the intersection knows what they're missing out on, and doesn't just think "hoon".

hear hear

How do you approach a drag?
With extreme caution, if possible I ty to walk away from him/her. I dunno bout you but I don't like picking up drags...

Personally i find most VL drivers will give me a go, thinking I drive a fullsik turbo, but on the flipside most Lancers, Excels and civics back down when I give em a lil rev to show em who's what around that part of town lol (might be my "modified extremely high flowing" exhaust and extractors).

That said... I think this thread needs to be limited to "what do you do when challenged to a drag" instead of "how do you drag someone in an NA or go about finding people to drag". Or you might find the thread slightly deleted, if you get my hint..

your's sincerely, moderator ;)

Thanks for that oh so helpful reply SKY031. I thought I made it clear in my post though, if your not into drags from traffic lights, then this thread doesn't apply to you?

SKY031 is right on the money. This thread does not apply to SAU and is therefore locked.

Take it to the track.

    • Get something that can spray a bit, something like I'd use is a pressure pack for weed sprayer. I use one with degreaser. Spray it on (make sure you're fully covered up, you don't want that shit on you, especially face/eyes). Alternatively, a paint brush will help here as you can brush and work at the stuff quite aggressively.   Be aware, citric acid can eat metal away and will cause it to rust more later. So make sure you neutralise it when done, and give the fresh metal some protection. That hanger, I'd honestly bin and get something like the Frenchy's drop in replacement. The tank, again, I'd look for something else to replace it with. Remember, as metal turns to rust, it means there's less metal there now. So some patches of your fuel tank are likely to be quite thin.   Personally, Id focus on the front end of things, IE, how did the injectors get clogged if they're meant to be after a fuel filter. Then, once the front is sorted, I'd rig something up, even like a small surge tank, and make sure the engine is now running and all behaving. Then I'd replace the fuel tank and fuel hanger and pump. Also, I'd already be preparing to ditch your fuel filter...
    • That's looking great! Are you planning to do things like all hidden wiring with it, or you're planning to have it look more like we'd expect an RB in an engine bay to look like?
    • Haha thanks everyone, I'll take everyone's suggestions into consideration. If I do eventually choose a car ill post it here update on the mods I do.
    • I found the ingredients at larger amounts from a Coffee Shop. 1kg Citric Acid for €8.50 500g Baking Soda for €2.50 I tried it out tonight distilled water (I got from my ACs) and dish soap. It does get bubbly with dish soap. In just two hours the hanger has improved significantly and rubbing against any remaining rust seems to flake it off. I'm going to leave it a little bit longer and see how it goes. I have read that someone even used this solution in an ultrasonic cleaner to clean a seized water pump which brought it back to life.
