Ok I tried to search this but none of the search buttons work for the rb20det page. what is the diff between td05 16 18 and 20g and what is the performance difference on a rb20 compared to rb25 series 1 turbo.only driven on street will have 440cc and nistune.cheers

The inducer size of the compressor impeller is what changes. As you go up from 16-18-20, the compressor basically gets a bigger gulp capacity. Check for a few comments posted by Lithium regarding the TDO5-16G6, similar/same spec as an Evo.

Be aware that there are different TDO5 turbine rotors.

Hardsteppa has played with a TDO5-18G on a RB25 with I believe decent results.

Potentially good units at an affordable price, you can lean on them a lot harder than an aging OEM Hitachi unit off an RB25.

Have played with a couple of RB20s with TD05H-16Gs - actual Mitsi ones, on RB20DETs and give the stock RB25 a SERIOUS run for it's money in terms of response but definitely suited to more power, and generally better suited to the RB20 really. They definitely work very well on them, depends on how much power you are after etc.

It's old news in the Mitsy world but Hi Flowing their TD05 16Gs with the 18 and 20G versions of that compressor family tends to make them increasingly laggy .

If you search you could find out which Mitsubishi turbos had 18 and 20G compressors standard - turbine wise .

In Evo terms Mitsy went to a lot of trouble to make the engine package work and up to Evo 9 never used larger compressors as original equipment . They actually went slightly smaller in couple of models to make them spool earlier , think one version was called 15GK2 in the TME E6s .

Long short the 16G6 compressor is a good match for the TD05 turbine and makes for a balanced turbocharger wheel size wise .

A .

Depending on the rest of the setup I think a Kando 16G would be awesome on an RB20 - though I think on stock manifolds, cams and pump gas you'd be doing well to hit 260rwkw (depending on the dyno) regardless of which of those turbos you chose. I am not as familiar with RB20s and what they like to make with given mods so not 100% sure on what to expect there, but I tend to think of them as needing a bit of work to get up to around 260rwkw. I wouldn't count on that power from a 16G but I do think it would be an awesome drive, if what a 16G makes isn't enough then I'd step up to a 20G - personally... not sold on the 18Gs being a worth while in between.

You are aiming at the internally gated one, I assume? We have been playing with the idea of going with a bigger map sensor and trying to see if we can max out a Kando 16G on ethanol at some point - will update the Kando thread if we do.

If you are going internally gated the Kandos tend to need some porting on the wastegate as well. As much as I'm not a fan of Stao going into threads about other turbo types and pushing is product, I actually suspect one of the Hypergear turbos might be a better option for the power level and setup you are looking at - if 260kw (or more) is your target. If you are looking at mid/low 200kw and you aren't afraid to do some porting, or have someone who can port the wastegate whole to closer match the flapper then the 16G would be a total winner.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
    • Bloody apprentices! 🙄
    • Not sure yet.  Was considering speedtek because it was rated to 800hp, but when I did some research about him I don't think I will go for that🤣 So maybe giken gear set, but I'm afraid it won't be strong enough🙄
