I had intenitons of doing a proper write up, but must have got lazy and just put the photos in that thread.

FYI, i didnt have to use the supplied washerto space the diff anywhere, I think it might be for S-chassis? Or maybe Z32. But anyway.

I find when I drive around in the wet for a little while I end up getting a fair knock in the back. It scared me a bit the first few times, but now I know what it is, I dont think about it so much lol. Would be nice to fix it, so maybe I will put the super-pro ones in one day. Want to do subframe bushes so should do it all then

So you reckon that's the rear side bushes of the diff? Sounds odd, especially if it's only in the wet.

Is anyone else running the Nolathane/Whiteline diff bushes, how are yours going?

Only because they used to be press fit bushes. The front diff mounts I have are whiteline ones but they are a similar design to the standard ones anyway.

Im relatively sure its the rear bushes. Its not a big issue. The noise goes away when it all dries up. But it does annoy me a little

Diff is back in with SPF bushes in front and Nolathane in the rear. I am not super impressed with the Nolathane ones either, they don't feel super tight and the diff sits a bit further back that with the OEM ones. I tried with the spacers too but it wouldn't tighten up properly. Very easy to install though obviously and at least the bolt hole is the right size unlike the SPFs...

I'll let you know how if feels once I've got the rear back together, need to slap the suspension and HICAS delete in there.

HICAS Eliminator kit and suspension are in, just needs rear seats and exhaust back in now. Although I might get my brakes tomorrow so will leave it on the stands for a bit longer ;)

I thought you didnt want to wait for replacement rear bushes from super pro?

Good point - I haven't even raised it with the supplier as yet. From previous experience warranty claims take ages so I've gone Nolathane for the bushes for now. Brakes didn't arrive either (sad face) so I'll put it all together tomorrow, at least I will have a car that is drivable... will be nice to get some groceries after two weeks :)

The car is back together since last night and the clunk from the diff is gone. The HICAS delete feels fine too, however it will need a proper alignment soon of course.

I wasn't happy with how the diff sat with or without the supplied 7mm spacers so I ended up putting a standard 2.5mm washer in there that seems to work well. I'll post photos of the whole project at a later date.

Thanks heaps for your input everyone, especially 89CAL and GTSBoy, extremely helpful!!

Can you do me a favour? Just spray underneath the car with some water (fair bit) and then go for a drive, mine usually clunks when taking off from a standstill

Interested to see if the washers have helped, I didn't bother fitting the suplied spacer because it was no good at all, but might fit a standard washer as you've done if you dont have any issues with clunks etc.

Yeah man I'll check this once the car is a bit dirtier just washed it after a couple of weeks :)

Did you grease the bushes before putting them in? I wonder if that could cause noise.

Also out of curiosity, when you did yours, did you disconnect drive shafts at all or just drop the diff a bit?

I used the supplied grease with mine. I think (but it was a while ago) I installed them dry, then noticed the noise and thought I would try with the grease, but didn't really make a difference.

I think I was going to remove the diff completely till I realised I'd have to remove the rear of the exhaust and Couldnt be bothered getting gaskets (even though in hindsight that would have been easy lol) so I probably removed the driveshafts off the diff and hung the diff down.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yanack Racing make unreal diff bushes.

I have these for the S15. Quality is high end & they're chromoly. Made in Japan

Thanks, that's interesting, I found some at RHDJapan: http://www.rhdjapan.com/yanack-diff-mount-rigid-collar-set-rear-nissan-s14-s15-r33-r34-c34-c35.html

Based on the pics they're solid metal, a bit like these GKTech items: http://www.gktech.com/index.php/s14-s15-solid-diff-bushes.html

Probably good for track/drift but not sure if I'd want to run solid bushes in a road car, experiences anyone?

I drove to work in torrential rain this morning, like most of Melbourne it seemed. I can't really point to any difference in noise/clunks/performance between dry and wet.

I'm not overly convinced that the problem you're having is directly related to the diff bushes, however can't think of an alternative cause either... Hope you get it sorted.

    • My thought is if you were just moving it forward and the upstream geometry remained the same, then no difference at all. But because the current one has the filter direct into the AFM inlet, you effectively have the best chance of a completely symmetric air flow profile upstream, and in, the AFM, whilst the aftermarket inlet thingo has a (small, to be sure) bend between the filter and the AFM. That would bias the flow to the outside of the bend (downstream of the bend) which might well reduce the size of the signal seen by the AFM, for the same total flow rate. Having said that: If you're proposing to make your inlet look like a hybrid of your existing one and the aftermarket one, such that there is no bend where the filter is clamped on... then I say it will be just fine. If there is going to be such a bend, then, if you can align the insertion of the AFM blade such that it is at right angles to the plane of the bend, then there is a better than even chance that the centreline velocity where the blade is will remain more or less the same, and the velocity will just be a little faster to the outside of that, and just a little slower to the inside. **This is not professional investment advice and you should consult a suitably qualified ouija board, tea leaves or the intestines of a goat for more accurate prognostication.
    • Hi Tao, Thanks for your reply.  It's been a while and I managed to get the valve stem seals replaced with the head on the car.  Unfortunately this didn't solve my issue, the car still smokes a lot after idling (to be honest during idle you can see a bit of blue smoke from the exhaust), same after deceleration. I will try disconnecting the valve cover breathers, do I leave the PCV valve in? By engine oil drain pipe, do you mean the turbo oil drain?
    • What about if you just give it direct 12v and earth?
    • Hi guys . Can someone help me  I bought an Android screen for my Nissan fuga but it won't turn on
    • My guesstimate, with no real numbers to back it up, is it won't effect it greatly at all.its not a huge change in position, and I can't see the air flow changing from in turbulence that much based on distance, and what's in front of it. Johnny and Brad may have some more numbers to share from experience though.
