how much does the r33 gtr cost?? i know its alot more than the wrx. with the same amount of $$ spent on the wrx, it will eat up the gtr.

we came up against a r33 gtst at the lights last nite, and we took him so easy.

im not sayin i dont like the skylines but im just saying wrx r wicked.

i know some of u guys will say what about the r32 gtr?? well its true that beast will eat up the wrx but just want til next yr boys. the wrx is coming out a 2.5L which comes with 300kws stock. im sure it will give da gtr a very good go for its $$.

mmm and how much will it be when it comes out? you'll be able to pick up a decent r32 gtr for like 25k next year probably with plenty of mods.

Add another 25k or more to bring up to same spending level and you'd have a gtr that could pump out way more than 300awkw

I've left WRX in my wake in a 33gtst with full zorst and 10 psi.

I've driven in and been driven in a gtr and i got a little scared.

Havent felt that kind of acceleration power since being on the

back of a Jap sports bike.

If i wanted a car that went fast but looked like a large bug I would

have bought a WRX. I wanted a car that looked great and went

fast so i bought a line.

Early '33 GT-R's go from $40k - $50k, depending on condition. About the same price as a lightly modified WRX; but quite a bit faster. R32 GT-R's are about $30k, for Aus-delivered ones, or a tad cheaper for private imports.

Oh, and don't be so sure that Subaru Oz will bring the 2.5l WRX here; the Americans get that version, not us. We get the same WRX as the JDM, just detuned for our crap fuel. It's not so much 300kW stock, either; its more like ~250kW (forget the exact figure, magazine isn't at hand). GT-R's are known to pump out more than the 206kW Nissan prints.

I think you guys should give this guy a break, the WRX aren't bad and given they are locally delivered the insurance given he is older shouldn't be too expensive. Sure enough he probably chose the wrong forum for opinions. Everyone knows money talks and if you throw enough money on a street car they will go just as good as any other car. But true to the fact Nolimit seem to have hurt your feelings/ego when he said he's cousin beat a GTS4.

Now I'm not here to argue anything but to clarify a few things, if your going to be throwing facts and figures try and compare the cars of the same market. The Aust WRX are detuned as you all know, where as the JDM WRX as early as 92 (240ps, 1200kg) would be just as fast as the equivalent year JDM Skylines people have been importing. When the 96 JDM WRX were released they were now making 280ps powering a 1250kg car (RA were even lighter, yet not as expensive as the STi) which if anyone has truely followed the JDM market will know and read the WRX was much much quicker then any showroom GTSt of the equivalent year. Interesting at the time people were wondering what Subaru was doing making the JDM WRX as powerful as the STi. Any which way it's all good, especially for those looking for a cheap track car, 96 RA 280ps and 1190kg.

As for the 2.5L WRX, I also doubt it would come to Australia and yes they don't make 300kw...if that was the case it would be making more than an STi.

First you ask how much one costs, showing you have no clue, then state categorically that its "alot more".

Mind pointing me to the extensive comparisons you have run? Or even any comparison where equal dollars have been spent on a WRX and a R33 GT-R?

And a traffic light race is always such a good indicator of performance. Just like week my mother "smoked" a Ferrari off the line at the lights in our diesel Citroen. Our car must be so much faster.

Others have addressed this. There is no proof that Subie plans to do this. Plus, spend the difference between a brand new 05 WRX and a R32 GT-R on modifications on the GT-R and we will see who smokes who.

If you want to make a point, try and bas it in reality, otherwise go and congregate with fellow fanboys on a Subaru forum so you can talk about how you smoked this or that last night.

It sort of brings it home to you ...just how good the Skylines really are when people are jumping up and down 'cos they think their 2003 or 2004 HIGH PERFORMANCE car can beat a 15 year old Skyline, I don't argue with them (it's hard when you are giggling) I just tell them I'm at Willowbank and QR on a regular basis and they can bring it on whenever they like.......no takers so far

meshmesh, the first WRX was actually released in 1992. in 1994 the first STi came out.

i'm not going to comment much on this thread because my previous ride was a MY98 WRX and it was and still is an awesome car and btw, i was never beaten by a skyline :( mainly cause there just werent that many around at the time :P:D:(

one comment though, the WRX does NOT "handle" better, it just has phenomenal grip levels. "handling" is a totally different ball game.

:confused: but I'll take your word for it...franks. I use to own an MY00, as awesome as it was, it doesn't come close to my GTR, infact comparing them, makes my old WRX look like a 4door corolla with a blower attached.

But, it sure was fun whilst it lasted. Had it for a year and a half and lost nearly $20K, from new when I sold it :( I looked at upgrading to the MY01, but what a dissater the MY01 was, I'm suprised it's even called a WRX. You couldn't even feel boost coming on, and it felt like the car was having an atshma attack. The thing I found with my old one was how zippy and good it was point to point in traffic, downfall was it had no legs. After the zorts was done, I use to receive a letter from the EPA "fortnightly" :P, well just about anyway, got sick of EPA testing a sold the biyatch...best move we made I reckon.

I agree with him.

If I had to choose between a 10-15 year old R32 GTS-4 and a 1 year old WRX, I know I'd take the WRX in a heartbeat.

......... but if you can't see that that's an unfair comparison, you should end yourself and not contaminate the evolutionary gene pool :(

Oh, and 1996 R33 GTR = $40,000-ish

2003 WRX = $37,000-ish

Now lets compare those two cars :P

    • Hello, just just bought an 1999 enr34 with a stock rb25neo and I'm looking to upgrade the engine to 500whp I know some basic things but wondering if there are things I'll need to do to upgrade the stock block and all the bits and pieces to achieve this.
    • Thanks everyone for the replies and suggestions. Got the seats out (hoping I could find some existing grommets but no such luck). By tapping and measuring etc. I could figure out where I could drill through if needed. But first I borrowed an inspection camera and managed to go through factory holes in the chassis rail and could see that the captive nut was holding steady which is why it could retighten. So it was indeed a stripped section of thread, so I applied downforce by levering the bolt head with a screwdriver and went slowly back and forth until it came out. Camera helped a lot cos I could monitor that the captive nut was holding tight. Now I just have one very seized main subframe nut to tackle 😅
    • BOVs do have a purpose, if you ever log pressure before and after the throttle body, you will see a spike pre throttle on lift off from a WOT condition. Enough to bend throttle blades / damage e-throttle motors or simple assist in blowing off cooler pipes. FWIW, the above on really applies to those running at least 2 bar of boost. OP shouldn't have an issue, on the other hand, here are some videos of my shit box over a decade ago with some succulent dose with the airbox on and off. That shit box is unrecognisable these days 🫠    
    • I've tried all different combinations of BOVs/ no BOV and stock bypass valves over the years, on gear changes the stock bypass valve seems to get the car back on boost quicker because in part the turbos wheel speed isn't being slowed down by reversion, although they have issues holding boost much over the stock setting. Most aftermarket BOVs you can adjust the spring, tighter will make it open later and close sooner, but in my experience it'll cause a bit of flutter at low load/rpm anyway. I've also got some input into this whole no bov causing turbo wear, never had an issue on any on my turbos HOWEVER, I got my R33 GTST with 200k kms on it, with from what I can see still has the original turbo, no lateral shaft play but has about 4-5mm of play in and out which to me seems like a worn thrust bearing from years (100-150k kms?) of turbo flutter running no bov, so maybe there is some truth to it in the long run. But that'll never stop me loving the Stutututu while I have the car.   OP just wants to know if he can run a atmo vented BOV with no major issues and the answer is YES, plenty of people do it, there's no harm in installing it and seeing how it runs before spending $$$ on an aftermarket ecu, last time I bought a Nistune it was $2400 for install and a tune , unsure of todays prices but you get me. Crazy money to spend just to fix the minor inconvenience of stalling that can be overcome by letting the revs come down to near idle before putting the clutch in or a little bit of throttle to avoid it. You're better off leaving the ecu and tune for after a bigger turbo/injectors have been installed to take full advantage of the tune and get your moneys worth.   Let OP have his Whoosh sound without trying to break his bank haha
    • I see you missed the rest of the conversation where they have benefits, but nothing to do with avoiding breaking turbos, which is what the aftermarket BOV made all the fan boys, tuners, and modders believe was the only purpose for them...
