My line had 149.8 RWKW totally stock! and its a 93 model with 84k on the clock,i now have 3" turbo back exhaust and hi-flow cat plus a k&n filter in the stock airbox but havent had it dynoed yet, this sounds very high when you guys are saying youve got similiar readings with the exhaust and pods?? would this be done to the difference in dynos or what?

150 odd RWKW sounds about right if not a little high for a healthy stock motor on stock boost.

All dyno's are different though. If you want to see actual improvements keep going back to the same dyno.

UPDATE: Power FC is in....

~200rwkW and 500Nm - 11psi... but problems...

At full throttle and 100% injector duty cycle the AFR only read 12.0 :P

Checked the fuel pressure and after a couple of hard runs it dropped from 40psi to 35psi

Fuel pump gone?

Any ideas anyone? I'm getting a new fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator installed next week, as that's what my mechanic/tuner suggested, then retune. Do you think that will fix the problem?

Forgot to mention the car drives like a fricken dream now. So smooth and power throughout the rev range. :cheers:

Your mech/tuner is on the money. should sort things out.

You may find the AFM is close to, if not out of resolution. This only becomes a problem if you want to turn boost down - the car will run rich.

To sort that out you will need a Z32 afm, but if you are happy driving it the way its tuned, dont bother until you start thinking about turning the wick up. Oh, and you may be due for a clutch before too long.

steve, clutch was done a month ago with a 5kg flywheel so that's all sorted :D

hmm z32, I've still got the stock turbo, and only plan on going maybe 2540. Do you think I'd still need a z32 afm?

Likewise, great read - I'm in the process of looking for a reasonably stock R33 so I think I'll be heading down the same path as you. Have the cash to buy the car and do all of these mods in one go.

Worst part though, I had a malpassi RR reg and a Bosch 044 fuel pump on my cordia and I sold them only a few weeks ago!! :)

apparently after i blew my new motor in my series 1 and put the series 2 motor in i made 159.7rwkw on 7psi was wondering if that seems a bit too high? air filter and exhausht thats it

if you are just looking for a once-off upgrade for that little bit more power than some ECU tuning/aftermarket management would be a good option.

however...

once you are bitten by the modification bug you won't want to stop there :D

i agree with Zahos in that if you have a desired path that you wish to take with your modifications (ie exhaust/fmic/boost) that you seem to have expressed in your posts, then do all the 'bolt-on' mods first and than once its all finished get the management (ECU) organised. saves on tuning as you only have to get it done once rather than after each time you do a mod.

my order from stock skyline to mild beast would be:

- dump/front pipe

- high-flow panel filter + cold-air intake

- cat-back exhaust

- bleed valve (12psi on R32 or 10psi on R33)

- GTR camshafts (great cheap upgrade on rb20 but not sure of rb25)

- ECU retune / aftermarkt management

then if you decide that your pockets are real deep then the next set of upgrades aren't going to be cheap and the cost of a re-tune will be insignificant compared to the cost of the mod / fitting so can be justified...

Hi guys...great read...I'm a new guy to this whole scene...Im an ex-through and through holden fan who only ever worked on or knew holden engines...Ive since been influenced and converted...Im in the process of buying a Series II GTS25T. Im in the research and learn phase and just getting some ideas etc etc...just wanted to ask a quick question...you know how your all saying to get a good exhaust system...so like the front/dump pipe to the cat and finally the cat back...are you guys still using the stock intake manifold or extractors as I would call them? sorry if this is a newb question...if so what would be the gains of upgrading the exhaust from this point...so extractors--->front/dump--->Cat--->cat back...? I didnt notice anyone mentioning anything about brands or prices??? what is a good middle market fair priced system to go for thats going to make imporvements such as these...also with the front/dump pipe...just confirming that this is a dump pimp included in the front pipe and so a separate single stand alone dump pipe is not needed??? I also have seen a few performance INLET PLENUM what is the go with these? is this a bolt on mod? what is involved...? what are the gains and what makes a good from a bad one? btw are the stock turbos on a r33 high mount or low mount...? what is this anyway? im gathering its just where the turbo is located? sorry for all the crappy questions...any help is much appreciated...Cheers, Joe

well i dont know about everyone else here but my car made 215kw with a 2530 15psi stock manifold. the exhaust on it is 3inch off the turbo and the dump pipe is seperate to the front pipe on this system.

the standard manifold is low mount meaning the turbo is mounted low down on the car and high mounts are mounted up high belive it or not :(

I'm in the same boat as you. You just have to look at the EJ wagon in my garage to see I can't let go. That said... there is a series 1 GTS4 sedan parked in the driveway now.

Extractors as you call them don't get changed much at this end. The stock units flow really quite well and only need changing when you change trubo configuration to a high mount or somthing with a bigger and different flange.

Intake manifolds are also pretty damn good, but what you connect to that is where you make the gains. The air comming into the turbo is important, so that is why pod filter in ducted cold air boxes are the go (or like me a much cheaper thought good foam panel filter - uni pro NOT hks). Then the turbo to the intak manifold is important with its intercooler to cool the intake air heated by the turbo (a trade off of the turbo running on super hot exhaust gas) and then all the piping.

The mods on here are where to start and just keep building up. When you out grow a mod you can easy sell it on here to the next person getting into it.

Stock turbos are low mount.

This is an awesome topic, its really helping me out on my car. Like a lot of people who have posted here, im a new owner of an r33 gtst. Current mods are an apexi 3 inch cat back, Blitz fmic, and an unknown fuel pump (a new one was installed by the previous owner, i rang the guys who installed it, they told me it was a "petrojet" pump. To my knowledge, petrojet are a distributor of walbro pumps, but im not sure????)

My aim will be about 200rwkw at this stage. So far this is my plan of attack:

NGK sparkplugs

Hi flow cat

fuel pump + fuel reg

Apexi Power FC + Z32 AFM

ok i dont know much about technicality..i have a 3 inch catback exhaust..i haven't checked under the car..just been told the exhaust is only catback...but if i was gonna get new and big front/dump pipe..wont i have to change the cat to a bigger one too? if not wont that restrict gas that i could let go? thanks

My r33 made just over 180rwkw-->cat back, intake, 10psi. Yours if fine...mine is a little high :sweat:

For that power scrap the list, all you need is the cat, power fc (or a retune/piggyback) boosted to 12-13psi MAX and make sure your intake and exhaust are free-flowing (3inch). Give the car some good oil and plugs (i use Motul Turbolight 4100, NGK copper gapped to 0.8mm). The other mods are only needed for higher power, and the turbo will need replacing in that case. Realistically the car will make close to 200rwkw (depending on condition, i.e fuel pump might be tired). i'd just be concerned if the turbo will reach that power. Good luck :teehee:

    • Hi all. Been a while but things are moving along. I just have something that I am wondering about. Since I will use OEM turbo oil pumbing, I got myself a new bolt, the one that goes into the engine block oil feed. As I recall (and see visually) this bolt comes restricted with I think a 1.7mm hole? Not quite sure but it was something around that size. The turbos have 1mm restrictor bolts installed, as necessary due to ball bearings and my higher oil pressures. Can I now just use that OEM bolt with the 1.7mm hole in for the engine block or will this actually be too much oil flow restriction and I have to drill it out first? In my head it would make sense for the bolt to be at least 2mm wide as both turbos take "1mm of oil flow". Do let me know if my logic is flawed here, I just want to make sure I don't kill my turbo bearings with too little oil. Don't know if I can trust the saying I read somewhere that ball bearing turbos essentially only need an oil mist

    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
    • Yeeeppp, been following a lot of the testing on the latest Xona stuff and there are some mental results.  He also went over 1000hp @ 4 hubs on his Mainline with a XRE6364S (63mm) which was also well into the 20psi range before 4000rpm on a 2.5. Crazy stuff. Fwiw the XRE5964S is basically the modern equivalent of their old HTA3582 - would drive nicely enough on an RB25 or 26, but proven capable of a huge amount of power if you want to spicy with rpm tho even at sane boost levels will make stout numbers
