I run a 232 234 112 cam and it certainly isn't a pig. And it doesn't need 5000 to come alive. Compared to stock the power and torque started climbing substantially from 2500 rpm. Perhaps the Ines you experienced were shit tunes.

Not for a split second would I want a smaller can. Auto its a different story.

I drove an M6 LS1 with a 224/230 Howards cam and 3.9 diff, it felt like a doughy dog until about 4500. The owner agreed when he drove mine. Like I said, I've seen plenty with the 232/234 that were disappointments around the street.

Less is more IMO with street driven LS cam selection.

Willall are one of the most reputable tuning places in the country, graph looks pretty good, here's mine. Not tuned by RAS, but on their dyno. Disregard first plot, it's not accurate.

Cheers for posting your graoh. It would be interesting to see your mates graph.

Luckily being in SA Willall is the obvious choice. The car runs so nice.

Will be taking to the drags soon, just want to sort the diff out first.

Really glad I never sold my RB, these graphs are quite disappointing when you think of almost 6L's of V8 and theres only 200ish kw's at 4000rpm plus the torque, my skyline would be frying tyres whilst overtaking the LS1, I guess they arnt high tech but still bit shitty, I'm keen on a VCM9 though in the future mostly for sound, the RB is really where the fun is though I think, missing mine..

be interested to see what your LS1's sound like compared to mine.. any vids to share??? I could upload one of mine for comparisons..

Edited by AngryRB

mine doesn't even bake first... hahaha, one step at a time hey.. with a manual one day it might lay a black line in second.. then that's worth throwing a party..

Haha

Hey greg, in this one, https://youtu.be/s80O-2-zrvM whats the noise in the first few seconds? sounds like lifters but then you push thru it like F#$k this shit lol , and that's cheating that's a 300zx

No idea what the noise is - probably just the video mic or the dyno whinging!!!

The driver complained that when he pulled 4th gear doing 160 - 180km/h at the track, if he put his foot down, it smoked the 300mm wide slicks!!!

Since then we freshened up the engine, softened the suspension, and did some brake work, so it will be pretty quick at the track.

There are lots of LSX powered street registered cars with far more power than the Z :woot:

Off topic I know but since JC/SC are run by f**kwits brainwashed by tuners who's looking for quick buck.

Tell me, what's the point in having bigger throttle body on stock manifold?

Looks cooler.

I asked Willall about it and they said don't bother.

Mate of mine is building an LS1 for his S14 at the moment and decided to have a look at the stock throttle body and manifold last night and saw there is no point going a bigger throttle body as the inlet manifold mouth will be smaller.

You don't really need to touch that stuff unless you're aiming for 350-400kw+.

Another mate runs one of those big tunnel ram looking Edelbrock manifolds with a big throttle body and still only makes about 320kw but fark me it sings.

You'd be thinking of JC where idiots drink the MACE / Oztrack kool aid.

Most LS owners know that stock headed LS1 is not really good for more than 280rwkw or so without head changes or FI.

No one really bothers with TB upgrades on LS1s these days, Holley / FAST intakes are of most benefit for LS2 owners (due to shit factory intake manifold) or big cam / strokers.

Mine is on the lower end for that combination of cam + engine - either way it will roast the first 3 gears if I want it to (full rpm shift into 4th is @ around 120-130+ km/h), and IMO has 'enough' power for street driving, in a car that weighs about the same as an R33. Lazy gearing is the letdown, and probably why the dyno sheet looks doughy <4000rpm. Trust me when I say it's not like that to drive.

I miss my R32, but I don't miss the RB25 compared to having a Gen 4 LS.

Also there is no technology deficit - the LS is fairly up to date, OHV design makes for an engine with a lower centre of gravity, more compact package, whilst still allowing for a larger swept volume.

Yeah, Greg here told us not to bother wasting $ on LS1, so I dug deeper in mine and found number of pointless mods done to it.

Now to sell them to idiots.

FYI, Ramjet is the worst designed otr of any kind, to change filters you need to break out a chainsaw and cut the car in half to get them out especially HSV and their one piece bumper/grill.

I probably wouldn't bother with LS1 these days, apart from a turbo, or s/h supercharger either. L76/77/98 are plentiful and can easily be converted to run cable throttlebodies for conversions + more compression, better fuel system and factory heads.

V6 guys are the worst - stuff like manifold insulators etc LOL.

Ramjets are terrible - the VCM OTR on mine is a bad enough design with the corners rubbing the bonnet.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
