I don't think I've ever seen great consumption out of any R series Skyline

My stockish R33 did 9.3L/100km on the freeway. I made it 598km on a tank before I chickened out and filled up (56 litres), the only reason being I was between country towns and I wasn't sure if I'd make the next one on what I had left.

Last 2 tanks on the R34 with Adaptronic I think I averaged 11L/100km driving over the blue mountains and back, and some mixed city driving. That's not too bad, especially considering the elevation change. Before that it was around 14L/100km around town, pretty bad.. but I think I am "driving around" a droney exhaust which makes me boot it to get through the droney point and then sit in a lower gear doing higher RPMs that are not fuel efficient.

I think my engine tune is similar to above then. The stagea has the added disadvantages of being auto, 4WD and has a the aerodynamics of a baleen whale at the front. Ive now added as much timing as I feel comfortable with. I haven't spotted any problems listening to the knock sensor or looking at knock readings. Without dyno time, I dont think I can do more accurate tuning. Since my tune needed quite a lot of fixing after coming back from a reputable tuner, I don't think I trust anyone but myself.

Comes down to driving conditions too. I used to get 12l/100 in the Stagea because I was able to let it heat up at my own leisure before hitting traffic. I've noticed a huge drop in Econ because of my new home and work location.

Wheel alignment and sticky tyres also has an effect on economy. Driving to Wakefield Park with R compound tyres and 1mm toe out at front really chews up fue, on normal tyres I'm able to get there on about 30L of fuel on E85. On semi slicks it chews up about 40L LOL

It would be nice to log EGTs as well which would give you a better idea of the situation. Better to measure the happiness of the engine than just listening to it. You could also get it right in a short time. You might not realise you are running too lean until you reduce airflow, then a slight increase in intake temps may be enough to detonate a hot chamber when you are in low speed traffic and your intake temps aren't high enough to retard timing . Hope I make sense.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
