Sick of people selling dodgy GTRs

Recommended Posts

So in my quest to find a very tidy GTR for the right price, I found a 1994 model r32 for 30k that seemed to fit the idea.

It was advertised as stock standard and in very good condition.

Not only that but it had a super low 30,000kms on the odometer which seemed unbelievable.

How could I go wrong? I went over to this guys place and out the front sat my ultimate r32 GTR.. white, low, gorgeous.. sitting there waiting for me to buy it.

The seller comes out the front, and informs me the car i'm buying is in his garage.

So I treck into the garage, and although the paintwork was quite good, the front grill was lying on the floor, exhaust parts where lying on the floor, the interior was terrible.. it had holes in the vinyl, cracks in the plastic around the gearshift, rusty rear vision mirror, cigarette burns in the worn seats.. I've never seen gearshift/handbrake boots so worn on an r32... the list goes on.

The car looked like it had done 300,000kms.

I asked about the one out the front and he told me that he bought both and he's keeping the one out the front. It struck me immediately that the car I was buying was nothing more than a parts car.. all the decent stuff had been swapped and placed on the other car. They where both the same body colour, same year..

I've never seen a GTR in such bad condition. DODGY!

What a huge insult on my intelligence. I got out of there faster than a man hating lesbian at a football game.

What pissed me off the most was I asked the guy to confirm the condition of the car over the phone and he told me it would be best to come out and see the car for myself.

What a huge waste of time and a dissapointment.

Meshmesh, your right..

Yeah its tempting going r33,.. about the same price range as what i'm prepared to spend on an r32, but I am not a fan of the whales.. I prefer how pure and raw the r32s are.

Though I dont want to say too much, I might end up sitting in an r33 and being called a huge hypocrite :)

Its a pain in the ass..

I've looked at a few GTR with my mate in melb.. Finding a good one is so difficult - and the amount of totally unbelieveable stories was ridiculous! Most were dodgy. That said there have been quite a few for sale I've seen recently which from the photos and details looked quite well priced.

I hope you aren't restricting your looking to just QLD ? As they don't seem to be as prevalant up here as in other states (like melb). An airfare is easily worth the price of getting something you want!

That car didnt happen to be located in the Sunnybankish area did it?

I'm in the same boat. Although my budget isnt that good.

I'm in no hurry though either. I've inspected more dodgy than good

so far. It will be worth it in the long run methinks, to be patient.

In the meantime, I will continue to ride my silver whale :)

I wish we could have a solid indication of R32 SEVS compliance. Otherwise

its 89's only it seems with the 15yr rule ending 1.1.05

Yeah, I dont want to give too much info about the specifics of the car and its location.

But I agree with you. There was a nice black one with gold enkei's out at logan that was not too bad but it got sold before I could get dollars together.

Pentae,I'm quite sure i know the car your talking about. This car is currently in the for sale section, and is listed on carsales? I'm very glad i saw this post. I was actually considering making the trip from vic to see this car.

Bad news for all us legitmate buyers. I've had my fair share of Bullsh*t down here in vic, specially with all these 89' GTRS. There is a group in vic i've been to see and all i can say is DODGY++

++++

now people start to know "you pay for what you get"

there is no cheap GTR,if you want good GTR,than you need to pay more money or you will get shit car,

i think for 89GTR you really need to pay $25000~$30000

93~94 around $35000~$40000

for R33GTR $42000 over,

if anything less than that, thats mean the car wont be very good,

    • Both of those things are on my to do but not quite in a position to do that just yet until I can at least get it running back to stock. Going to work on getting the exhaust manifold gasket and studs replaced first, an obvious need it now. Then I'll try out the new maf and see hownthat does. After that I'm thinking cas if I'm still having the same issues. Still need to run the fuel out and refuel I'll change the fuel filter tomorrow along with cleaning the iacv with carb cleaner. If all else fails I'm going to get a serial port and see if I can get some sort of data on what the ecu is seeing when the issue is happening but really hoping one of the methods above work out first. After I get a good base I'm going link but have to save for that so it'll be a while for that based on my tuners suggestions. Definitely need the exhaust leak fixed first though car has always fallen flat after about 4-4500 rpm since I've had it and suspecting that's the issue. Then I can move forward with the rest.
    • My vote is rebuild s2 engine or maybe get a neo (but expect you may need to rebuild that too). Doing an engine conversion you would have to be a true tragic nowadays and actively be aware there's better/smarter options for value.
    • Or buy one someone built earlier! (realistically V8 mustangs or MKV supras are great). I see people nowadays putting ZF8's into MK4's, and people putting 370z gearboxes, diffs, axles into R and S chassis and it's like.... just get a 370z at that point and mildly boost the 3.7 instead of the 2L and away we go...
    • If you're going to go v8 or really any swap now with all the tax, I'd most likely just get rid of the car and start with something else. Unfortunately, I have a mate with a surplus of ls and Ferrari/Maserati v8's that's always tempting me FFS lol.
    • If you can get a clean, tested neo from Japan for $3500 these days, it's probably worth getting either way, hard not to be skeptical at that price. Otherwise probably rebuild the s2.
