Gday Gents

First time creating a build thread here and very green with the Nissan product

A bit of history and my back ground in cars has weighed heavily with Fords I own a FPV F6 Typhoon since 2008 this car didn't stay stock for long.

It has gone through a number of transitions over its life to be a very reliable tuff street car 730rwhp or 540rwkw

I then purchased a R33 GTST as a rolling shell off a friend at work This car came with everything bar a engine

me and my girlfriend at the time sourced a RB25 motor and began the build

We ended up running a T04 turbo and it made a mild 460rwhp on United P100

We had a heap of fun with this car at power cruise events and cruising but the bug had bitten hard I wanted more power but the car had massive traction issues as it was

After a bit of thought I realized that a GTST wouldn't cut it. I already had a big hp RWD car

It was time to find a GTR

Introducing the new project

1995 R33 GTR Vspec purchased as a roller off a bloke off the forums Matt Haines

So went a bit crazy at the start. Bought a RB30 block and crank, CP pistons, spool rods ect but really forgot what I wanted out of the build

High reving twin turbo the 2.6L engine had that ability and I was about to throw a 3L at it I really want to do a 26/30 build however now was not the time first I needed to get the car on the road and experience what the RB26 could do

I picked up a low km rb26 engine which was running only 6 months before. It had some good bits in it

Poncams, eagle rods and CP pistons Picked up some -5 twin turbos and a vipec ECU

Planned on dropping it in and getting it licensed. But after a few interesting conversations some invaluable information was given to me which I'm glad I followed through with I went ahead and pulled the sump off and check all the bearings

Well I'm glad I did

After removing the intake plenum and throttle bodies The cylinder head ports were also very wet with oil and on closer inspection they didn't have brass valve inserts

The pistons on number 2 and 6 had massive pitting on the tops from destination

The bearings were made of a really soft material and chunks were missing out of them they were a very soft material so soft the chunks that have come away had not damaged the crank

Covers look great :)

Car is clean man, hope all goes well with the new engine!

Thanks man

The car is very clean. The engine bay has been repainted and cleared about 2 years ago so it's something I don't need to worry about

I have found a few bits and pieces that aren't right for this year car though

I found out the car has a R32 gearbox in it

It has a R32 ignition wiring harness in it so the ignitor is separate from the coil packs

It had various after market gauges and timers in it I have stripped them all out and am starting again

Doe anyone knows if these HKS knock boxe and timer are any good

Either way I pulled them out I think they may be missing components

    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
    • @GTSBoy yeah sorry i know thery are known for colors bud those DBA are too in colors 🙂 Green will be good enough for me
