Hi all !

I have in my garage an inlet manifold that is apparently off a Skyline GT. I bought it from an old guy about 20 years ago and it was fitted with 3 x 40mm DCOE Webers. I always thought that the Princes had Solex's (solii?) on them, but from my understanding the Solex and Webers had same mounting flange, so perhaps someone swapped them.... ?

I used the carbs on a Holden Red Motor, then much later I sold it complete to a speedway guy and got left with the old (Prince?) manifold... I haven't thrown it away because if it truly is a GT manifold then I'm sure it would be helpful to a collector / restorer.

My problem is how to identify what it is - can anyone recommend an expert that could assist me work out what it is, or perhaps tech pics, etc ? Of course I can post up pics, but need to know who to ask first...

Also - if it is what I think it is, how could I sell it ? I gotta clear all this stuff form the garage or face divorce :D

Thanks in advance, John

John

so pleased to hear you kept the manifold just in case. The Prince Skyline just celebrated its 40th anniversary in central Victoria with 23 Prince GT's turning up.

The Prince Skyline GT register is maintained by Noel Sinclair and you can reach him on 03 9830 1639 or on email to [email protected]. If you can send him pics he is sure to be able to help.

I haven't found if they have a website yet. Noel is a member of the Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club NDSOC of which I also am a member.

Thanks, guys !

Whilst searching the net I had found Noel's name & postal address, but no other details. So thanks, SkylineGeoff for giving his phone & email !

I'll take some pics tommorrow and let's see what Noel says :)

No doubt the Weber(3 x 40 dcoe 18) connection has been confirmed by now.Same carbies as the Lotus Cortinas of the era. I think it may have been Toyota that used Solex in the twin throat side draught format on their twin cam 4's and sixes of the late 60's to mid 70's. Can't really say about the Nissan S20 of the same era, I have pics showing Webers, Solexs and Mikunis and possibly Del'ortos. With a bit more research I could probably find what was original on the S20 twincam , but by then I'm sure another "early Skyline facts guru" will have chimed in . The GR8 did run webers early in the piece, and this was set up by Prince Motor Company engineers....(that should be enough research fodder for ya!!)

On the subject of an Australian Prince Skyline GT Website, a couple of the page building capable guys belonging to the register are working on building a site or two....keep your eyes and ears open...

Cheers,

Jim.

Skyline Geoff, I was honoured to be invited to the 40th Anniversary at Beechworth, and I am pretty sure from memory that there were 28 Prince's there. I think this total included every owner of a prince GT in Australia. As there are only about 40 cars in australia, and some of these owners had 2 or 3 of them, it would be pretty close. It was a great weekend, a real blast, it was freezing at beechworth though. 98 percent of these cars had webers on them, and sounded awesome. (The other 2 percent had L28 turbo's in them !!!!!). I have a heap of pics from the weekend if anyone is interested in having a look.

cazz, would have been awesome to listen to all those triple webers. I was just going off the numbers in the NDSOC mag for the Winton excursion.

Throw some pics up here or put them in the classic Skylines area as I'm sure we'd all love to see them.

This is gonna sound really stupid, but how do I post pics up here, can someone give me some tips? lol. Or can I just get a cd to someone higher up in the club, and get them to post them? hehehe! Sorry to hijack your thread.

Not stupid at all. Click the go advanced button just below the new message screen, then there will be some new options on the next screen. Click the manage attachments button and a new window will open. click the browse buttons and find the file you want to upload. Then you click upload files and wait for the response. They will automatically appear in thumbnails at the bottom of your post.

Here are some pics of the Prince Skyline GT 40th Anniversary in Beechworth and at Historic Winton. Hopefully one of the engine bay shots may help with you manifold identification.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
