Hi guys'n'gals

Thought i'd post in here rather than general, bit more performance orientated. Basically need a few pointers with exhausts. Been looking at batmbl's front/dump pipes, heard good things and looks like a good price.

If those are installed, do i then need a new CAT/rest of exhaust (not sure what that's called) to go with them?

I know a free flowing exhaust is a must for a turbo car, but i imagine there is a limit regarding how wide an exhaust should get? I'm not looking for a shelter for the homeless exhaust. So in terms of response more specifically bottom end, what size an i looking at? 3", 3.5" all the way through? Larger/smaller?

Not really performace question but more final look of the exhaust, which i guess will limit me in brand choices, but i'm after one that doesn't.

- angles up/away

- angles down (WRX style)

- trumpets out (tip)

- sticks out too far from rear bar.

I dunno, something about exhausts shape not suiting the car really puts me off. I'm sure that's probably going against performance, but would it make that much of a difference to rule out the above style exhausts?

Lastly, they seem to be a hollow piece of steel, so are there really MUCH better brands than others? Obviously not going down the titanium route, but something in the style of the Mines R34 GTR exhaust looked nice. Finish pretty flush with the rear bumper and was parallel with the ground, not all angled funky. And if it's good enough for the Mines car, i'm sure it will be fine for my GT-T (minus the titanium-ness :P )

So yeah, long post but just any brands or exhaust models that aren't like the above mentioned, and what are the best specs for getting better response, not top end.

cheers.

Regarding power curves.

The majority of the shaping of the power curve is going to come from the engine pipes, not the exhaust itself. On an NA car, the exhaust plays more of a part, becuase you are talking abuot pulses etc. On a turbo car, the impeller gets rid of the pulses and turns them into spinning air.

The best bet with a turbo car, is to get the biggest from the turbo back as possible. and especially right at the outlet of the turbo, because pressure differential between the sides of the impeller wheel plays a big part in boost response.

On a turbo car, the less back pressure, the better.

I'm not sure about the exhaust versus power equations, but I don't think I will ever be needing a bigger exhaust then the one I have (Fujistubo, Power Getter). I think its 3" or a little bit over.

The ultimate front/dump would be the CES Racing one which is split for about 40cm until just before the cat

Then a BATBML big arse cat

Then a full exhaust then there on.

Couldn't go too far wrong with most exhausts as they are all pretty much straight through anyway.

Are you coming tonight?? You could have a good look and listen to mine if you want.

BASS OUT.

I didn't even realise that the meeting was on, just saw the thread today :D

How much are we looking at for the CES Racing one? And it looks like there are 2 BATMBL cats, one small, one large. Would the small one be ok for GT-T?

    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
