Hi guys im wondering how most guys replace valve guides. I can take them out but i just dont know how to install them. I have a 50 ton press and can press them out but i cant find a way to angle the head to press it out unless i see my self making a jig to hold the head. Im just wondering how or what methods the machinist use to replace valve guides. I looked it up on you tube and all. But cant seem to find any on a rb26. I see old chevy heads and so on. Is there a specific tool i can buy to do the job. ??

I did make a tool and with brut force i hammered them out worked great. Oh that was on a junk head as a test. But i just cant find a specific process used on rb26 heads.

Thanks in advance.

Dont just press the guides in. Heat the head and freeze the guides. Have repaired a head with galling from the previous shop installing the guides like a neanderthal

Would have to watch how hot the head gets or seats could droo out. This is a very touchy decision. Lots of ways of doing it.from what i see.

Sorry for all late reply. I was planning on doing the guides myself on a junker before i do it on my new heads. I just got 5 sets of bc guides. I also located a very good tool that removes and installs the guides.

One question. Do anyone know or heard of using seal lock/fluid weld on the guides like a locktite to keep them in. I know its a tolerance fit thing and freezing them before installing them is a good idea as well. Just was reading up on some old article, and came across the fluid weld stuff. Oh and i am planning on doing all my valve work myself its always worked out for me, just my first time having a failed guide. Hate this. I hope this is the last hump in the rb line up. I tight for years to master the oil issues, did it and over looked the guides. Damn me. With fully built motor is there any other weak point i may have mist.

Thanks in advance.

Best to get a junk head and do some practice runs before you screw up your good one. Are you planning on reaming the guides, grinding the valves and cutting the seats yourself too?

When you say reaming the valve you mean kind of like drilling them out cutting the side wall area down so that they come out easier. Rather than pressing them out and scolding up the aluminum.???

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
