my fuel pump is dying :devil:

i need some help as to which pumps physically fit and flow equal to or greater than my stock pump on my R32gtst

having done a search, i came up with pumps from the following cars that people have theorised fit and flow well...

- GTR fuel pump

- VL turbo pump

- VL pump

- R31 pump

- Z32 pump

BUT what i need is people who have fitted these pumps and can confirm that they flow at or greater than the stock pump, and whether or not the size makes fitting a problem? (post flow rates if you have them :rofl: )

what does everyone think? obviously i am after a cheap option, preferrably new, but really don't or won't ever need any mroe than about 150-200 L/hr...

can i buy these new or a direct replacement one from repco/bursons?

any help at all on this area (even if you think its irrelevant, post it!) will be really appreciated as this is one area that i have no idea about!

I've got a denso fuel pump for mine. Its actuallt smaller than a stock iteam, however it has a greater fuel pressure and flow rate than any JECs (standard) fuel pump i've seen. 200 cash. Keep an eye out for a fuel pump on the forums. BTW i believe VL and VL turbsre pumps have the same part no.

Try searching the wreckers for a late model Supra pump, supposed to be greater flow than GTR pumps, they are made by Denso, possibly the same as Big_boy is reffering too. I had a mate install one in his 32, it seems to work well, he is making around 200rwkw

If not, get a new Bosch 040 in tank pump, they can be had for around $250-300

Probably a few different ones like people are saying will do the trick.. I wouldn't bother with any of the VL/R31 pumps unless you really wanted the cheapest possible.

Bosch 910 for $200 or so is probably fine for anything less than 250rwkw. Depends what your future goals are are.

What's the consensus on installing a higher flowing fuel pump with regards to running rich. A few guys say that it makes no difference because it runs back to the tank BUT I remember a couple of guys on the forums saying that a higher flowing fuel pump seems to put increased pressure through the injectors & run richer.

Just wondering what the verdict is & peoples practial experiences, do you need to adjust the ECU?

Oh, & what the signs of a fuel pump on its way out. I sometimes here a wierd urmphh noise when I switch off the ignition (but only sometimes) from the back right of the car. I know its already running rich though (1 o2 sensor is rogered & CAS is retarded).

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
