Aftermarket wheels can be maximum 1 inch larger diameter or width than stock wheels, so the police are in the right.

Tough but its on the vicroads website for everyone to see.

Close, but not quite...

do you have a link? I did a search but couldnt find it

Well this is not so relevant to you but for us Victorians we just need to head for straight Section 8 (ironically the same name as that used for discharge for insanity from the US Army, the rule Klinger from MASH was trying to use to get out of Korea)

VicRoads - Vehicle Standards Information - Section 8

The specific item of concern regarding wheels

The width of any replacement rim must not be:

more than 25mm greater than the widest wheel specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that model or vehicle series

Well the GT-R is part of the Skyline series so I would agree that this should allow for up 9½-inches... because 10-inch wheels are 25.4mm greater than the widest wheel... Don't think they wouldn't try that on you!!! :bs!:

The wheel diameter has no rule but the total tyre diameter must conform to

The overall diameter of any replacement rim and tyre must not be:

more than 15mm greater than largest diameter tyre specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that model or vehicle series

Thanks Gojira, that was my understanding. there is no rule on wheel diameter....same as the ADRs. Tyre & wheel diamter, fair enough that should be close to stock otherwise your speedo is stuffed.

My compliers were kind enought to put the GTR wheel sizes on the tyre placard so I would be covered for larger wheels :)

Speedo's are only a substitute for the revolver in russian roulette down here in vic now Duncan since the Bracks govt legislated a 3kmh blanket tolerance for speed, not the ADR 10%.

Hi SkylineGeoff - Can you suggest where I can go to pick up one of those placards ? I don't think my car has one of those anywhere, and if I do get one, I'd want it to be relevant to the car, not just going up to 15 by 6 inch wheels.

I thought they were generally stuck to the inside of the drivers side door or the glove box.

haha the windscreen washer not working... i got done on that when I first went to rego my car. THe Vicroads dude checked it n goes... unroadworthy... i was like wtf... looked in the tank, no water... asked him where I could get some water, the cvnt refused to help n wanted me to come in again... so I poured my bottle of sprite in there and asked him to try again... it squirted sprite and I passed the RWC... lol needless to say I flushed the whole thing out when i got home...

if you get the placard for a 34 [doesnt say r34 on it i dont think] it doesnt specify much difference between models it just lists:

17 x 7.5 with 225/45 tyres and

18 x 9.5 with 265/35 tyres I think

So technically I could put some big & wide fcuk off rims on mine :P

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
