Mick_O's Detailing Diary

Hey guys!

I've always detailed my own cars forever and have done a couple of detailing courses with SAU & alot of online research over the years. After the 1st course i ran out and bought a neat little random orbital polisher (Mint DAS6) which is a great little unit for the money and has never missed a beat ?

But after playing around with some serious gear my mate (That Detailing Guy) had i realised how much of a toy my lil DAS6 was!

So a few months ago i splashed out on some nice new toys and have had some fun in the shed with some friends and family cars.

So thought id share some pics of my new toys and the results I've got with them ?

So this bad boy the the Flex 3401 Forced rotation polisher its a 900W beast!

Im a pipe fitter/ pressure welder and spend alot of time hanging off 9" grinders and this thing commands the same respect lol. Sure its not gunna cut your arm off but it takes some muscle to hang on to ?

So this little guy is a Flex PE-8 its an 800W rotary polisher. I f**ken love this little guy!

I have backing plated from 3" down to 1" and with the extension bars that i have there literally isn't a place i can't get to ?

Picked up some cheap LED worklights off fleabay to help me see those defects!

Had the stands floating around in my workshop so it retrofit the LED's onto the stands ?

4×150W LED's are nice and bright and dont give off any heat like halogen light which is good when you're going hard at it!

Last but not least is 1 of my favourite things! The trusty foam lance... AKA the jizz gun for short! ???

Again this is used as a preventative measure to stop you scratching your car up when you wash it by dragging dirt across your paint with your sponge or mitt ?

Heres Dads 370GT after i touched her up and threw a coat of HD Nitro coating on her. Its a really great easy product to use and is quite well priced!

No i hadn't done the wheels as the weather was turning crap and time wasnt on my side lol

So just look at the paint ?

Here's my boys mums SP23 i corrected and coated in the same products as the Evo 9 above ?

Actually 1 of the few cars i remembered to take some before and after shots ?

The paint on this is R.S unfortunately but still comes up great for an 11yo car. This was around a 15hr correction though lol.

So before....

As always black looks amazing for about 45 seconds after its been coated!

That Angelwax Ti-22 & fifth element wax is an amazing combo though.

Even made dads 2.5yo lil wing nut smile ?

So here's a mates young blokes MX5 i done a couple of weeks ago. This thing looked like spiderman had wiped his ass all over this thing it was quite munted indeed! Typical Mick_O style rips in and forgets to take before and after shots to compare! ?

But i basically gave it foam lance then a 2 bucket wash followed by a clay bar and rinsed then hit with HD adapt (best compound out there!)  and a blue pad which was a medium/heavy correcting pad then threw a coat of HD poxy over it. Even a small little car with no roof like that still took 5hrs!

But still came out great!

Im a huge fan of HD products they are quite well priced and deliver amazing results.

Puts anything you get from SCA or your local autobahn to shame for not alot more really ?

Last and hopefully not least is me old mateys shitbox i tickled up for him. Cos im a top bloke of course!

So this nugget got the foam lance treatment then the 2 bucket grit guard wash then decontamination with Angelwax clay sponge then hit with Angelwax regenerate compound then sealed up with Ti-22 titanium paint sealant followed up with Angelwax Dark Angel black hard wax... But as you can see she came up ok ?

    • Ok I get you. But isn’t the butterfly intake a headache with the +T?  see this is my plan so far but please advise me into the right direction.  Nistune Ecu, 1000cc Bosch injectors, TD05 or TD06 Kinugawa turbo using stock rb25det exhuast manifold, walbro fuel pump unsure of model I think it’s 450/460, spitfire coils and sparks to suit and a R35 MAF sensor and boost sensor.    I was thinking maybe do a cheap eBay plenum $400-500 or try find a stock det neo intake. I think I’d port match it so it’s getting the full capacity but open to advice please.  Thanks
    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
