Hello

Hello all! I have just joined and wanted to say hello to fellow Stagea enthusiasts. I have an M35 Stagea that I bought last year and I am LOVING it! She has a few simple mods but I will slowly give her more as time goes on. So far it has brake lock mod, transmission cooler and 3" turbo back exhaust system. I enhanced the look with some Simmons wheels. I do have a few questions for those in the know.... What type of auto transmission is in them? It's a fantastic auto and when I give it a boot full, it likes to hold at a rev and hold that rev through every gear. It's almost like it pre-selects the next gear or has a stally or something? Does everyone's do the same? Also, it takes a good five minute run before it goes into 5th gear, even if I manual shift. Wondering if it may be a solenoid on it's way out or the fluid needs changing or is wrong fluid? The other question I have is, I have seen the WC34 models with R34 fronts on them and they look amazing! Can I do this to my M35 or is it a completely different deal? What basic mods would you guys recommend for me to do to enhance performance? Thanks in advance for any thoughts and it's great to be here!

Ooops. Probably should have posted this in the newbie section that I just found LOL! BTW, I reside in sunny central QLD and if there are any other Stagea owners up this way, I would love to hear from you!

RE5RO5A is the transmission

It needs to get up to temp in the NM35 before it will select 5th. I had two external trans coolers on my old NM35 and it would take a good 30mins in Winter before it would select 5th.

The M35 looks odd with a V35 front. Kids Heart do an R35 body kit, but you will be dropping over $10k plus the R35 front panels for it!

Which exhaust? Anything done under the bonnet?

Thanks for the info. I purchased the car last November and it never really had issues going into fifth. It seems to be getting progressively worse, taking longer and longer as the months go by. But you could be onto something with the Winter weather playing a part in the issue so thank you for opening my eyes to that. I will see how it goes as the warmer months come through.

I did see a pic of an NM35 with the R35 front on it and it was hideous! I like the look of R34 though, but I am guessing that it's only the older models that can take the R34 front?

I think the exhaust might be a custom made job....... Have not been able to see anything on it to identify brand. Looks like mandrel bends and extremely tight, clean welds though. Has a twin pipe rear muffler which I will soon be replacing with a big single pipe muffler, as it will look much better I think.

Under bonnet is fairly stock I think. I am going to order a decent air cleaner for it next week but haven't decided as yet which brand to go for. I also want to get a BIG front mount for it and an alloy radiator and better coil packs. As far as I am aware, the previous owner only did exhaust and tranny cooler upgrades.

Yeah she runs ok. I was going to upgrade them purely for a better, cleaner spark which always helps make the car more efficient. It IS quite efficient now though - I get around 550klms around town and 700+ on long distance highway.

K&N

Do some research here. You want quality, and not over-the-top, otherwise your throttle response will be screwed not to mention slight increase in lag.

I will definitely do that research. Any suggestions on air cleaner? Previous cars I have just run K&N........ I certainly would prefer better throttle response than worse!

As I mentioned, a K&N replacement filter will be fine.

If you're concerned about your throttle response, don't bother with a "BIG" front mount. Get something that suits your purpose, or stick with stock if you're not winding up boost too far.

If you do wind it up, or replace turbo for something bigger etc, get yourself a decent 76mm intercooler kit. The HDI brand is the bare minimum when talking quality.

Alright. Thanks everyone for the advice! I am going to keep current boost settings for now so I think I will upgrade the intercooler when I upgrade the turbo. I will get a pic of the exhaust when I get a chance and show you.

Pic of the exhaust? A common twin tip is the Fujitsubo Legalis. If you don't want it, you should be able to sell it pretty easily.

You won't find a better air filter than an R2C pod for performance and efficiency.

Photobucket hates you for not paying extortion money. Lol

I have researched the R2C pod filters and I am definitely going to use one! I am, however, struggling to find retailers for them in QLD. I guess I don't mind if I get one interstate either but where have you all been getting them from? I am too impatient to wait for one to get here from USA :4_joy:   TIA

Here is the rear muffler I was talking about.muffler.thumb.jpg.692656bed415620edd32e82c0e7d39be.jpg

    • Hi all,   long time listener, first time caller   i was wondering if anyone can help me identify a transistor on the climate control unit board that decided to fry itself   I've circled it in the attached photo   any help would be appreciated
    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
