r34 Transmission Problem

Driving to work this morning and my AT cut out on me.

Was driving down a freeway just about to turn off and accelerated a little and it just reved out and the A/T light on the dash came on.

Pulled off the side straight away to try to figure out wtf was going on. Swapped it into tiptronic and noticed that the transmission still thought it was in 4th gear - which it couldn't be because it should have shifted back to 1st automatically when the car stopped.

The A/T oil light did not come on just the A/T light itself.

Turned it off and waited about 5 minutes, switched it back on and the light didn't come back on and I had a tranny again.

Anyone else experience this problem before or ideas on what it could be?
