This was in the news tonite and in the paper as well, saying they are gonna have a 10pm to 6am night curfew for teens under the age of 21 and to limit the number of passengers they are allowed to carry to one teenager. WTF?????

Also on the discussion is for the limit of high performance vechicles to teens...a power to weight ratio like victoria has? i believe.

But yeah read the 2 articles for more details.

I personally think this is really really unfair and dumb idea for the Govt to target U21s like this. wtF? night curfew, how the heck do they expect people to get home say after a night out to the city? or whateva and they live out in the west, south or somewhere far?

Trains stop at like 12?1? and start again at like 5am, and night ride comes every hr or so.

Unless they make 24hr public transport available for the public, how do they expect young people to get home during the 10pm-6am period? what call our "mummies" and "daddies" to pick us up at like 3am?

10pm? that's a bit early, that's when people start going out on weekends, who da hell goes home at 10pm on a friday or saturday nite, like maybe 3am to 6am is understandable, but 10pm is realli realli early. Also limiting the passengers they are allowed to carry? WTF? what has this world come to? I thought australia was a place of freedom for people of all races and ages, but what the nsw govt is trying to do is no different to a totalitarian or communist regime. The idea of communism is good and is suppose to be for the people, but does it ever work out like that? No?

They say these new laws are to reduce the normal of deaths for teens U21 as they represent a significant amount of the people that are in car accidents between the time of 10pm to 6am, but honestly, everyone who drives, knows the risk that they are faced with and i think most teens can decide for themselves if they want to take this risk or not. They mite as well just make the age for getting a driver's license to 21, to save the trouble for cops to pull people over. Im quite peeed off to hear what they are trying to do and just wanna see what the rest of you people here think about these new laws?

they did this where I used to live in the states, but it was for the Provisional licence holders. so that was people ages 16 -17.. and they were only allowed one other person under 18 in the car at any given time. unless they were brothers or sisters.

this is really cold, but hahahaha, its not fair, but i reckon its gonna happen, they have all sorts of excuses. what will the pollies get away with next? watch the episode of south park called grey dawn, that will give u a better idea of the real prob on the roads (LOL at that episode)

*sighz*

now copz are looking to put a 6month on the spot suspension if your caught sms-ing on your fone. They say this is as serious as "high-range speeding" although it only accounted for 7 NSW car accidents which caused serious injury.

I swear eventually cops are guna make it illegal for people to pick there noses or change the channel of the radio when driving.

wtf has nsw come to?

there are so many things wrong with these propositions i don't know where to start!

1st. If at 18 i can go to war for my country and fie coz of it... i expect to be able to drive my car anywhere i damn well please at anytime i damn well please.

2nd. Imagine this scenario. 20yo go out can't drive home becasue it's too late. they can't afford taxi so what do they do... Drive without P plates! i mean eventually no one is gonna put P plates on anymore it's just a sign for the coppers saying "YO, PULL ME OVER I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG"

sooo many more i could make a 1million word essay and still have more to say... ( I LIVE - if that's what you wanna call it - in Victora and am U21

There has also been talk of the 'Power-to-weight' banning, that us under 21 drivers will be unable to drive high performance vehicles at all.

Does that mean we're all going to have to sell our Skylines?

If this law were to go ahead, it would have to be one of the most dramatic influences to the modified car culture.

The night scene has become culture to some, it is a thing of many generations. It is ironic the people trying to enforce this law are most likely from the days of 'Hot Rod' V8's and 'Burger Stands' by night. They too grew up in the same environment.

So give us our chance to experience the culture we thrive to see, our 'Jap Boxes' and our 'Krispy Kreme' (Probably the most common trend for people 17 - 20, sorry to exclude - High Performance Imports and McDonals as well as others). Let us experience what they experienced in their childhood days.

I've got too much rage to put it into words. All I'll say it's its a load of shit, and just another ploy to draw the attention away from the real problems in which they obviously don't wish to combat in a correct fashion.

I'm not going to sell my "high powered car" and not drive after 10pm either. I'll just drive without my P plates. Heck, what if I'm working overtime and need to come home about 11pm? Oh, can't do that, because apparently I will cause an accident, simply because I'm under 21.

As soon as you hit 21 everything changes in an instant of course, suddenly you're then responsible and can handle a high powered car, oh , and you'll never cause an accident of course.

I could see alot of protesting going into this one

get as many people you can that are under 21 to drive onto say sydney harbour bridge and just park. turn the car off. get out and stand there... that would get some attention ;)

I have to say I dont disagree with this proposition either. Sounds harsh but the unfortunate fact is there are so many idiots out there on the road in cars that they arent capable of controlling in an emergency situation. Added to that the large number of young performance car drivers that already drive with little or no regard for others on the road.

It is this minority of young performance car owner/drivers that you can thank for such laws being discussed.

Dont get me wrong, not every p plate import/performance car driver drives like a tool, but as always its the actions and conduct of a few that ruins things for everyone else.

Sad but true

Good point Ryan, some of the comments I have already heard being thrown around is what happens to P platers who have to work evenings, in some cases later than 10pm and need to travel by car?

If the rule comes in, it will severely disadvantage many so you count on heavy protesting if and when the law is passed

From what I have read there will be exemptions or passes for people who work after the hours of 10pm.

It's still gay...

Thats something I guess.

Look at some of the tragic accidents that have occured recently though involving P plae drivers. This is the governments way of trying to show the public they are working to reduce the number of serious incidents on the road

why dont they just subsidise defensive driving courses, or something like that so that the skills learnt in the course will become common knowledge to everyone on the road. if this law passes, every one will simply take their p plates off. simple as that. everyone i know of that age told me they would.

God forbid they spend the stupid amounts of revenue they raise these days on something useful like driver training courses, or making them cheaper and mandatory for all new drivers....

Yeh the gov't are planning to give exemptions out to people who need to work after 10pm but thats so freakin stupid, that jus means that anyone with a p plate on or anyone that looks U21 to the cops will be asking to get pulled over. I really duno how the gOVt think that they can enforce this law, its ***en stupid.....

By trying to reduce the number of teenage road related deaths, the gov't has resorted to reducing and restricting the freedom of teens. How can a person live without living in freedom? Not even alowed to go macca's or the local kebab shop for a bite in the middle of the nite nor simply go out with more than one of your mates because they are U21.

This isn't an Australia they i have learnt to live and love, it sounds more like the former Iraqi Saddam Hussein kind of regime, telling people what they can and cannot do simple because of who they are, or what they believe in..........

*sighz*

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
