Some early R32 and R33 Skylines arn't preimum fuel cars and therefore you shouldn't be using preuim fuel anyway' date=' if your Skyline is after 1995 then they will all be preimum only cars, where as before that it's a mix so you should look up your manual that check that out. Wrong-Genuine,untampered R32 GTR with genuine Nissan fuel filler sticker that reads "Premium fuel ONLY"...Don't know where you got your info from.[b']

.Shell hasn't mentioned that the brew they market as Optimax in Oz has been banned in most parts of the world for environmental reasons...Makes you wonder if they're marketing department has been given the job of offloading the remaing crap to us unsuspecting suckers...[/b]

At my workshop,we experience much problems with most of the high density fuels-fouling plugs,chemical over-cleansing of cylinder bores,cold startup issues...Oh yeah,it's "great" fuel! :bs!: As I've delved into it,Shell's tech' people tell me that for my GTR,I should chande my engine management to slightly lean off mix A/F mixtures(can you say "detonate",boys and girls)and run one range hotter spark plugs...oh,and I may expect to experience slight "cold start" problems,but they assure me that the gains of Optimax outway the negatives... :) And all this from a pump fuel!Sorry if this is slightly off topic,but it's fuel related.

MLCrisis is on to it with the build up of the fuels we use:i've been running Ultimate 98 in various toys that I don't want to fork out for,engine rebuild wise,for quite a while now.My economy has picked up,power is up v. slightly(seat-of-the-pants-o-meter),plugs are cleaner every regular change,compression is good...I'll never go back to Optimax!

And just a side note:one of my best mates is a tanker driver for Shell:has been for 18 years.Three years ago at a large conferance he was at,some of the white labcoat team mentioned to him that he'd be smart NOT to run optimax in any of his vehicles..."Go well: DON'T go Shell"!

from what we were told, all fuel comes from shell, there are 4 pipes coming out of the massive tank, all going to mixing stations, that is where all of the additives go in, apparently they are all the same fuel(s) just different mixtures of different shi*

Thats not right at all. Heres an old post of mine from last year:

A BP depot is next to the servo i use (I know my fuel will be fresh all teh time :)) and I decided to walk in and have a chat to the rep....

He says the three major petrol manufacturers that make 98RON fuels (BP, Shell and Mobil) each make their own 98RON fuels and dont share it between themselves. BP make Ultimate in Perth and Brisbane. And he said that they all share 95RON (and below)fuels between each other, so BP unleaded might be found at a Shell or Mobil bouser. And BP is considering dropping standard Unleaded in the future.

BP make racing fuels (AvGas and Methanol) as well but they all contain lead and will kill your O2 sensor.

He also said that he heard of a company in Sydney called VP Wholesale (?I think?) that makes (or is in the process of making) a street legal 100RON unleaded and selling it in drums.

Some unleaded cars will have problems with preimum fuels as they will burn out filters etc quicker than normal.

Shell Optimax cleans your engine? WHat a crock of shit!! Back in about 2000 when optimax first came out my dad filled his car with it, 20km later the car simply woulnt run...

Was that optimax and shell's fault? Well Shell paid for a weeks labour and parts on the car, so I'll let you work it out :)

Ive never had a single problem with either Ultimate or Optimax

I actually put Optimax in last nite after running Ultimate for the last 6 months, My car starts better and idles better with Optimax but other than that, they both react exactly the same at 12psi@7000rpm :)

Optimax does smell a little more but thats cos it does have some kind of cleanser in it, although it would be very weak, its definatly there.

Id would be great if one of them brought out a 100 octane pump fuel, BP is already making a killing off Ultimate. Im hoping Mobil do it, cos Mobil currently doesnt have synergy 8000 in QLD yet. Although there is hardly any mobil servos around anyway.

At the end of the day they are both 98 octane, and aslong as you dont get a bad batch, they should react pretty much the same. If anything youd think Shell would be better, considering Shell is the most profitable oil corporation.

Yea, to be perfectly honest, in my experience they all seem the same. Sometime you gta good batch, sometimes it's shit, but that's from all 3 (Ultimate, Optimax and 8000). I am no chemical engineer, but I can't see the 3 fuels being spectacularly different from each other... as long as they are guaranteed 98 octane (which they all are now).

Oh and BTW, if you guys think we get a raw deal on petrol, anyone been to the US, they have to pay a shitload, plus they dont even have 98 octane at most servos! i think 95 is the standard for premium over there.

My car runs rough and gets worse fuel economy (is there such a thing with turbocharged engines??) with Shell Optimax.

Runs beautifully and I get much better economy (almost 100 extra k's to 1 tank) with Mobil Synergy 8000

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi 
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
