Swapped rb25de neo how to get the gear indication on the dash to work

Hello all,

 

so i recently swapped out my rb20de neo with an rb25de neo( engine,transmission, wiring and the diff everything) but i just cant get the gear indication light on the dash to work when i switch to tiptronic mode. Note there is a steering wheel switch beside the shifter and i dont have that. I did notice yesterday while switching to tiptronic that the indicator on the dash started to work but it didn't afterwards. Does anyone know how this actually works? Or do i still need that steering wheel switch to be connected and on for that gear indicator to work?

Given that you have seen the dash indicator work briefly, then it would seem like you have a simple wiring problem.

What happens when you simply jumper the wires on the "steering wheel switch"?

@GTSBoy i tried to jumper the wires and got the steering wheel light to come on which is right under the gear indication but that still doesnt come on.  Can it be an issue with my cluster?

I must preface my comments with a general expression of ignorance. I have no specific knowledge of these NA automatic things. I can only assume that the "steering wheel button" is for enabling the tiptronic controls. Wierd that it would even need/want a button for that...

But anyway.... Was the car previously tiptronic? Did you put a new cluster in as part of all this?

So the whole rb25de neo setup was a tiptronic setup and i swapped everything over to my rb20de neo setup and yes even the cluster of the rb25 was swapped over.

OK, so all I can suggest is that - if you have all the parts, and you have all the wiring looms, and you have all the electronic modules, then....it really is just a wiring problem. You likely have a damaged wire, pin, etc, somewhere.

Are there any wiring looms that weren't swapped? Were all the dash looms changed etc?

Yes i changed all the wiring,dash looms wiring from the ecm and tcm. Installed the tiptronic cluster, ecm, shift controle module even the tiptronic shifter. Only switch that i do t have is the steering wheel switch.

Ok than i guess i will start to rip half the dash out to double check things. Thank you gtsboy
