Hey everyone,

Long time owner here, have owned my R32 Gtst for almost 20 years now. Was a daily for a long time, then garaged, then on club plates, then garaged again.

After a family trip to Japan last year and an arvo cruise in an R34 Gtr with the kids in the back, I had this penny drop moment where i realised that now my kids are a little older its now more feasible to take the Skyline on family drives, so I'm now starting to plan what I need / want to do to get the car to that point.

Have never spent a huge amount of time in forums so not sure if this is the best place to engage, or if social media like FB is preferable, happy to be guided by you all.

If anyone has any recommendations for a great garage in the south-east of Melborune, I think that might be my first stop.

Looking forward to the next part of the journey :)

Cheers

TBK

There is likely more action on FB groups (I wouldn't know, because I wouldn't go near a Meta business if I was on fire and they were the only way to put it out), but from what I gather it is mostly flogs. The real old knowledge is here. Many hundreds of thousands of posts covering almost everything you will want to know, and if you can't find what you're looking for or if the query is too current to be covered by historic posts, then just ask.

Can't help you with Melbs workshops, but someone will be along to give some advice.

Thanks mate, appreciate the response and tend to agree! Be much happier just hanging out here with you all at this stage :)

Welcome TBK, nice R32 you got there mate

My kids are now reaching the age/size where they can go without child restraints, so hoping I can also get them along for a few cruises once my Gtst is back on the road

Thanks mate, haha that's it ey, no more boosters and what not, should make for a good time :)

Welcome mate.

What type of work were you looking at getting done? Majorly of decent skyline workshops are in the SE.

Not too sure just yet, want to have a go at doing what I can myself, but to start with want someone to cast their eye over it tell me what needs doing to get it running and back on the road, so anyone with great overall knowledge would be ideal.

Welcome.

Here's what I have noticed about forum vs FB.....

FB; seems to be wallet racing, and the same few questions asked over and over. There *may* be some groups that are closer knit, but most have changed for the worse.

SAU; unfortunately, no longer in its glory days. But....genuine people with similar interests. Not all about how much you spent and saying you dont have enough power. Sooooooo much knowledge available. Have personally seen people post up about literally topics I made myself, asking on FB like no one has done it before. Most has been done, and most of that is here.

If you ever feel like just general chatting theres the wasteland.

Other interests are also generally covered in other areas of the forum.

Hope you enjoy hanging around. We would love to have you.

P.s. nice 32 😀

The problem with FB/Insta/Reddit etc comments relating to cars is simple.

You get to ask a question once, and get one round of replies.
For things that can actually be answered in a few lines of text, once, it's fine.

After 6 hours, your original question is lost to the void. There are no follow ups, additional questions, anything.

No project car is ever such a simple list of questions to ask. You need discussion.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
