Media Asia Films has recently revealed its HK$100m manga adaptation Initial D at a press conference in Japan. The event was graced by a stellar guest list, including the film’s directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, as well as their Hong Kong, Taiwanese, and Japanese cast of Edison Chen, Jay Chou, Anne Suzuki, Anthony Wong, Chapman To, Kenny Bee, Jordan Chan and Shawn Yue. Mr. Peter Lam, chairman of Media Asia Group, was also present to support the gang.

Initial D is Jay Chou’s theatrical debut, and this nuanced leading man naturally became the media’s attention. “There’re lots of racing scenes in the film,” the pop idol said jokingly, “but fortunately the ubiquitous paparazzi has perfected my driving skill.”

well its a honky production, so it'll be unadultered by the yanks with their "live my life 1/4 mile at a time... bruh" shit. So should be true to the original anime series.

Apparently they've finished shooting...

think this one's gonna be a special FX movie than a live action drift movie... its already got a huge FX budget, and one of HK's best animation studio's workin on it.

i really doubt hk's ability to make this type of movie ... i've seen lots of hk films ... and lets just say i've seen lots of crap ones .. (some good ones .. but mostly crap imho) ... i hope its good ... jay chou can sorta sing ... never seen him act ... it'd be funny for asian people who can understand ... u got hk people, taiwanese people, then u got japanese ... hows that going to work??

if the movie is a hit i might put my original Initial D manga up for sale (which the anime series is based on) which I picked up for a 3 bucks when I went to Japan in highschool :)

I think the producers and marketing execs realise that there's a HUGE potential for spinoffs and merchandise, not only in japan but also in most asian countries (coz the stars are from most of the major asian countires) AND in western countries where the initial D series is a hit (albeit with "bruh" dropping voiceovers and wierd hip hop soundtracks). So if they fux0r the movie then all that is lost, so I'm sure they'll make a good attempt of it and won't let the budget stop em.

Hmmmm, I watched a lot of crappy HK movies...

I hope they don't make Natsuki into some whiney Honky chick instead of multitasking jailbait like she should be! I don't think HK cinema can cope with her as she was in the Anime.

    • Nothing wears "the most". Different cars will always show signs in a different place. 114000 km is either nothing at all (as in, given the calendar age, nearly brand new) or it's completely unbelievable. We stopped believing numbers like that about 15 years ago. Having said that, my car is up around 270000 km and I have put bushes into some places** as many as 10 times in >25 years that I've owned it. ** FUCAs, which are different on an R32 than on a 33, so not likely to be the same issue for you. I have original ball joints all the way around. They are perfectly fine. Same with the spindle bearings in the front. Tie rod ends have all been done at least once though. Pretty much every other bush in the car has been done at least twice. Some of those in the first 100000km after I got it (which was at a genuine 23000!). Some of those bushes are now sphericals, and they are on a <cough> regular maintenance schedule, hence why my FUCAs have been rebuilt so many times. Half of those 10 in the count above would be in the last few years! 'twere I you, I would budget on replacing everything, for fun and prevention. If they really are 30 year old rubber, they will all be unpleasantly aged in one way or another. Whether that's corrosion of shells, or the rubber cracking, or sagging under the load, etc etc.
    • Tighten until it starts to get loose again, then back off 1/4 turn?
    • Do them as you'll find when you remove them they are perished/dried.    Its probably one of the best things to do as makes the car so much more responsive. Do ball joints while there too.
    • Hi All Got an R33, about 114,000km on the clock.  Handles very nice, no signs of issues.    Engine is out and i'm doing an underbody refresh, mainly painting subframe, cosmetics etc. Can't see anything physically giving play, but I'm wondering which bushes are the ones that wear the most, or the first ones that may give problems down the track? For good measure I'm thinking to fit new ones. Thanks
