Hey guys,

I’ve been thinkin about the Cefiro's (can't wait till i actually get one :headspin:)

and have been thinking about keeping the sucker kool under pressure (drift )

would need(/want) a front mount right¿... so, was thinking it would make life easier to have a front facing plenum on the motor so that the piping didn't get heated up again traveling back over the engine/fen etc (also would mean shorter piping - win/win situation!)... So basically my question is, can you bolt a GTR plenum onto a RB20/RB25 no worries or how hard a job is it? OR... would it be better to go with an after-market plenum for these advantages and what kind of costs would i be looking at in all of the above cases?... (keeping in mind i'm not made of money! lol!

I would be doing simple bolt on mods to the car so won't really want to spend a fortune on and aftermarket computer and a days dyno tuning... (a chip may be in line down the road a bit but we'll leave that for now)... just wanted you to keep that in mind with your response.

Look forward to your input.

Cheers,

Dave.

hye man..

Ok my thoughts. if u using the ceffy for drifting.

Since in drifting u only go around the same corners for like 3-4 times and no more as most of the time u will be sitting on the rev limiter. I would say get a FMIC and a oil cooler. Any more power would also benefit from the FMIC would be good not dtrimental to your sport.

Most guys at the last d 1 drift day whom owned ceffy's had rb20's and pretty much only oil cooler and standard fmic. Everything elses was standard.

The standard power on the rb20 should be enough for u to obtain the correct speed to enter drift and should enable u to commit long enough on the drift.

I havent had any probs on my standard rb20 (oops ive got a t3 turbo). And have been able to do power overs with ease.

Just spend the money on the clutch and tyres u will be going through.

I run my old s13 stockies on these so much easier to lose traction and dorifto.

ATM only got like 170rwkw on 13psi.. and ive found that enough to do drift.

yes u can bolt an RB26 plenum up to an RB20/25

however for the cost of the whole thing it would be a waste of time.

-exhaust

-FMIC (GTR will do and much cheaper)

-Oil Cooler

-suspension

-clutch

-bleed valve

-POD

-ECU remapping

thats pretty much the basics.

Ok then that's kool.... Thanks guys and thanks inark, the money vs. benefits was what i was kinda wondering...

Rather than a bleed valve what would you say about an ebc? (or save the extra $'s for something else and just use a bleed valve?)

it all depends mate on ur situation...

ebc is always going to be better for tuning and more reliable... if u can afford to spend the extra cash on it go for it... even one of the older model ebcs are good... not as dear as AVCRs and the like.

does that mean a CT26 would bolt straight up?... what's your opinion on this (from what i understand it's a t3/t4 hybrid, some with dual wastegates - but i think i've already proven the extent of my turbo knowledge with my last comment lol!)

mate i honestly know sfa about cars... let alone turbos...all i know is if i strap a T88 on my GTR along with all the other supporting bits it = smokey fun

LoL if the barstard spools :P

probably 3-5k on top of the half cut costs...

If i supplied a wreck, would the 3-5K cover all the conversion¿ (ie brakes etc as well?) also, would there be any problems with driveshafts (4wd-2wd) or just a straight swap or whatever?..

cheers.

not sure mate...

3-5 would probably cover the engine swap... as for a brake conversion... you would need to source them too.. probably about 600-1000 id say depending on how much u get them for... gearbox once again not sure if the std one would be able to handle it... mine has an RB25DET gearbox i think... how the connect em up is far beyond me.

probably best to speak to a well known performance garage in Sydney that works with a lot of skylines.

best to do a search in the performance section and the NSW section and see what u come up with

Also an RB26DETT motor with RB25DET g/bpx. loom, ecu, afm's (essentially an engine package) will set you back $8000. I feel the only cost effective way to have an RB26 powered S13/A31/R32 is to buy it from Japan rather than converting it over here!

yeah boj01, I agree with that... i also had the option of getting a wrecked GTR and swapping everything into the Cefiro then selling what was left to try and re-coup some dosh but was unsure how the gearbox/driveshaft part would go¿ any input?....

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
