Hey guys...Ive just bought a new camera (CANON EOS 300D) and I have taken a few shots of some cars...I want to sell them eventually, but I would like to know if the quality of my work is any good...I'll post some more soon, but what do you guys think of this one? It was taken at the spit on sunday arvo just gone.

Obviously i have resized the image so it can be viewed....the actual size is 3072X2048 or something...

Nice shot m8, the car angle is perfect but i think there needs to be something more interesting, eye catching than just dirt and little water to the right... a nice widescreen shot would look awesome. something widescale on a really nice day with an awesome sky shot surrounding the car & car closer to the water *seeing you are in a great location*. Sorry if i am too critical but i have to give constructive criticism to my fellow workmate designer each day and he does the same back. On the right track ;) Looking foward to seeing some more shots :D

Congratulations on the new camera, a very capable beast. Here's my critique (as a fellow photography enthusiast)...

* Exposure - notice how the sky is mostly blown out and the shadows casted from the body are harsh? There is a lot of haze/glare in the shot, even on the subject. This could have come out spectacularly a few hours later when the sun was going down or gone.

* Composition & Angle - I would have liked to of seen more of the rear of the car. Perhaps even the whole rear by shifting the entire shot along to the left but still leaving a third of the shot with the bay in it.

* Post-production - every shot taken from a digital camera can benefit from a little work in Photoshop (or whatever tool you use). Attached - I've set the black & white points, brought back the highlights a little, saturated & sharpened.

But anyway... hope to see some more of your work soon.

-Greg.

shooting into the sun is not advised...

but hell, i do it anyway :)

I would have said more contrast in the photo...and as geno8r said, it needs something to grab the viewers attention...

I have a 300D too... fun camera

    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
