These guys aren't stupid, they've worked in the auto industry for many years and usually know exactly what they're looking at.

its pretty funny that you say that, cause the guy that engineered my car had no idea about my turbo. the compliance guys convinced him that it was just the stock turbo on a different manifold. he must have been stupid cause he believed him and signed it off.

Vic Roads wasnt a problem either. The guy actually put his hand on the turbo when he was looking for the egine number.

the only tricky thing is RWC...

.

There are a lot of people that don't know their stuff, but then you will run into those that do. It only takes somebody that *does* along the way and you're in trouble. And things only get stricter each year. Seems to me you have about three options:

a) take it to another state and try and transfer the rego (two lots of rego, etc) and see if the engineers can be still valid.

B) remove the turbo and return it mostly to stock (probably best option).. although soon as you change it back the engineers is invalid, so is any insurance (including if you hit a person on the road), and you only have to get pulled over by a nice policeman in vic and you're back where you started.

c) pay off the right people ..

You don't have much other options to totally frank. VIC is *strict* - damn strict.. .on most things. Just remember when it comes to insurance the story will be exactly the same.

Fark that...

RWC and engineering certificate will all be done in VIC. I have seen a few T78 big single modded R32's on the roads in VIC. It is possible and it will be done! I now have a few good options and I'm going to keep the keyboard quiet untill it's done. VIC is strict and even more so since unfortunate crash yesterday... heard that all cops were sent memo to book all "imports" with P plates (which will mean all imports get anal probes for the next month or so P's or not)

there are a lot of illegitimate cars in melb.. many shouldn't be on the road according to any applicable law - but they are.. see point c) :)

also see point B) - if you get an EPA (very likely seeing as just about every VIC skyline owner has had one.. inc me when i was there).. and you will have to remove that turbo.. no two ways about it. And the EPA are the clueist people I have ever seen inspect a car - I guess if you see a few hundred skylines you tend to know what a completely stock one looks like.

Does anyone know of a decent but reasonably priced compliance workshop in melbourne? I have a GTR coming with 2xGT2530's.. One workshop wants over $1500 to compliance the car, which i cant help but feel is a bit expensive,

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I only know of 2 and would recomend 1 - PM sent.

you safest to conver to tiwins for reg and engineering I always try to comly and reg my cars as stock as possible and they tend to go through quickly . my record for compliance and sign off is 2 1/2 days on the rb25 cef rwc was easy with it as well. if you want to play wit the big boys ie t78 you need to pay

cheers

Basically you are registering the car if it were new, so it would have to comply with ADR of the day. In other words your car would have to be a stock GTR R32.

If they wanted they could nknock you back for steering wheel, gear knob etc, etc ,etc.

Trying to legally get a T78 engineered and approved was a bit of an ask, when most people keep egtting defected for having a BOV.

????

If they can engineer and register turbo conversions in dattos, I don't see how a big single on a TT RB26 in a GTR is a problem.

Couple of differences:

- the emissions regs on older cars (eg datsun 1600's) are nowhere near as strict as on cars like GTR's

- engineering a turbo conversion requires a lot more work on the engineers part than an inspection to meet 15yo requirements. For example a full brake test would be mandatory (brake performance/fade, etc). In this case I've got no doubt the engineer has seen the single turbo, realised the car is not standard to a greater extent than he would otherwise accept, and decided he'd rather not take the risk.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
