Hi

Can anyone recommend tyres that actually have a bit of traction in the wet? I'm sick of trying to drive civilly in the wet and not having any form of traction in 1st, 2nd or 3rd even with the boost controller off and nursing the throttle. It's a joke. Please don't respond with "all tyres have grip if you lay off the loud pedal". Get stuffed, that's not the answer i'm looking for.

Coming into summer it's not that important but my tyres are getting towards their wear indicators and probably won't see out the summer so recommendations on a good all round tyre but particularly one that exhibits wet weather abilities would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Duncan, a power figure might help mate :(

I have 220rwkw and boost comes on at 2500rpm. Currently have the new Dunlop 9000SP and they are good enough to restrain normal to spirited driving in the wet and turn 2:00.5 at Phillip Island.

I would suggest the boost solenoid earth mod in the DIY forum to bring boost on smoother and sooner.

These tyres squeal if you start to lose traction too which is helpful.

I must warn you I am a Dunlop sponsored driver, Having said that a guy I know ran TT04 in an GT3 with the 9000 series tyres...

He can drive a bit, but not a gun. He didn't crash and raved about the wet weather grip.

I think a GT3 makes the same numbers as a reasonable Datsun.

Hope this helps.

TT

It might be worthwhile having a look at the suspension as well, it doesn't matter how good the tyres are if they are not in contact with the road surface. :(

It just happened to me tonight, turning left then onto a slightly uphill road, the car wont get any traction at all, keep skidding the rear, tried shifting to 2nd, still doing it as slow as probably 30-40km/h :) very bad and embarrassing as I was holding traffic behind me them thinking I might be a stupid hoon or something.

My tyres were Simex 225/50R16, I think it's not a very good tyre for the wet, might wanna go for something better, but perhaps will have to find a good 17 rims first before buying a 9000 or similar quality.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
