OK guys after a bit of searching around I've found that when converting an auto to manual...you can retain the auto ECU as it has no issues running without the auto trans attached.

The only thing to note is a slightly different fuel curve, timing advance at lower rpm..and the annoying side effect that it can hold high revs for about 5 secs when stopping (auto choke)

Looking at the ECU schematics, it has a communication port built in that TX and RX with the computer on the transmission.

Does this mean an ECU from a manual car would still run in the auto...as the transmission ECU is still receiving the data from the port on the ECU. The only difference being the lack of timing adjustment and fuelling differences?

I'm trying to organise a manual ECU to put in an auto car for the final test...but if anyone out there has actually tried this I'd be interested to hear.

Basically what I'm getting at is...I can't for the life of me get an ECU from an auto R34...but a manual one is available :P

It will run the engine OK, but the manual ECU has no programming for retarding the ignition on gearchanges. So you will get jerky shifts, flaring on gearchanges and premature gearbox wear.

I drove a manual with an auto ecu last week. It's actually quite a funny sensation. The auto ecu retards the ignition when it thinks there is a gearchange, but in the manual there wasn't a gear change. So the power would drop off everytime the ecu thought there was going to be a gearchange. Really weird feeling, after a while you find yourself trying to match the manual gearchanges with when the ecu thinks they should be.

:P

So nothing I'm worried about then :P I was looking at getting a shift kit and from what I've heard that'll give jerky shifts anyway and should cover the wear issue too.

My R34 runs an auto ECU (out of a Stagea) but is a manual and I have not noticed this.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
