Had a run with a GTIR!. Hey last night when i was driving home from by brothers, i stubbled across a gtir pulsar. Originally i was gonna buy one of these pocket rocket, but decided to go for the r33. So this was a chance to see if i made the right choice. So i we both were side by side doing around 55 to 60km, and i heard him drop it back so i did the same we both took off, and i got bout half car length and than i just kept pullin away. I put this down to the 33 having more torque, so when we rolled up at lights i thought here we go lets see now, and to my amazment i stil beat him and pulled away, dont get me wrong its tight till bout 40kms, but after that all he can see is my nice big round tail lights glowing in the night. So my question is, how fast are the gtir pulsars? I have neva taken my car down the qtr mile, so i would like to know how i would fair. Also has anyone else had a run with a gtir pulsar.

My wife used to have a gti-r when we lived in the uk ..

trust cat back 3"

hks pod

1bar of boost

and DAMN the thing was quick ...

and VERY loud ... anyway, seat of the pants feel was that it was more spritely than my r33, but you are right, it lacks high end torque, it would burn off pretty much anything that tried .. there are not many skylines on the uk roads, so never came up against one at the lights .. she would get challenged at lights a lot by rice burners, and she always used to say how they would 'eat it'

the grip was great, having the atessa 4wd it just kept gripping and gripping ! unless you were in the wet, then 4 wheel spins in 1st 2nd 3rd

all in all i would deffo buy one again if i had to .. deffinatly a pocket rocket to consider ....

the only real bad point is that it drank more fuel than my r33 does !!! V thirsty beast.

Drew, congrats on the win :D You may find that the GTI-R driver wasn't so hot cause unless your car is nicely modded, and his is completely stock the GTI-R should beat you pretty nicely. GTI-R makes 172kw at the engine standard and weighs just over 1200 kilos. GTST weighs about 1400 (guessing) and has how much power (I don't know)? I've run a few 'lines in my lightly modded GTI-R and haven't been done in yet. But again, it comes down to how you/they are driving the thing too. A GTI-R with a few choice mods should run (high) 12 second quaters and have between 165 and 180 killowatts at all four wheels. The line is a nicer, newer car though plus GTI-R is a group A homologation special so don't feel bad.

Yeah i was quite supprised, but than again i do have 193.7 rwkws. And the Gtir pulsar did have exhaust, bov etc, from what i could see. I had a few runs with him but i took him ever time. Dont get me wrong i like the things, i just thought i did well considering my mods. Which are; Ces double dumps, hi-flowed cat, 3inch kakimoto fro the rest of the way, blitz air filter, brand new front mount, 10psi, 500hp fuel pump, and a Blitz air filter. Which =193.7 rwkw in shootout mode 04 @ APC in brisbane, or 260hp @ the treads. So i just thought i went well and possibly thought that maybe id be able to hit mid to high 13's i hope. :D

All depends on whole variety of factors when racing i think especially when you dont know

1. How many mods the car your racing have, how mods dose yours have compared, 2 How confident is driver that your racing? 3. Is the car your racing below standards e.g. might have engine problems clutch problems ect.

i wonder what the difference would be for the gtir down the quarter when:

a) 7000 rpm dump

B) 2-3000rpm clutch slowly let out

i suggest steve-sst you did a heafty launch with that time on a relatively stock car... obviously that kind of launch is possible but not feasable for regular use or the gearbox will die

Waz.

I never found GTiRs that impressive myself, when compared to WRXs or EVOs at least. My old NA Honda Prelude used to keep up with the basic bolt on ones, and my R33 would make my Prelude look stupid. At 2 dyno days I went to my Honda managed to pip them for power (JUST)... with all the cars putting out 140kw @ wheels. SR20DETs have a lot of potential, but the transmission is not so hot compared to the FR ones Nissan have made.

In not-counting-launch situations I can't imagine a GTiR holding me off unless it had quite a number of mods, though down the 1/4 I wouldn't be so confident - though the tracks over here (NZ) are quite slippery which gives the 4WDs a huge advantage.

LMAO at all those talking about beating GTiR's in their whales..

Please...!!!

and a prelude keeping up? pull the other one..!!

not many of their owners are willing to do 7000rpm launches..

2 weeks ago at WSID, there was a little black one with 15 inch wheels, pod filter and turbo back exhaust.

boost was up from 10.5psi to about 11.5psi with the intake and exhaust done..

with a nice launch.. (as in no dumps.. just slip the clutch a little and release when it gets moving), and crappy 60' times, he was running 13.5 all night..

let's remember that 1 second difference in a 1/4 mile race is about what? 3 or 4 car lengths?

4 R33 gtst's were there last night and I knew 3 of them..

1 with semi slicks and about 200rwkw ran a best of 13.4

the other with a little less power and street tyres but completely striped interior ran a 13.4

the last one which had cat back and a pod filter and 17's ran 15 flat.

the 4th I didn't know had fullsick leather interior and stereo stuff and was running high 14's..

So i call "BULLSHIT" to all of you saying you beat or kept up with a GTiR unless...

*you have over 200rwkw

*lightened car

*or the GTiR had issues..

Okay dude, I confess i made it all up. I didnt have a run with a gtir pulsar, it was a 1.8lt GXE pulsar. Dude get your facts straight before you go assuming that you know how every r33 gtst skyline runs and every gtir pulsar runs. I undertsand that Gtir pulsars are quik, but that doesnt mean that a nice r33 with a few mods couldnt beat one. In stock form the gtir is only slightly quicker than an r33, so say if the gtir only had exhaust and bov, which i stated in my first post, with the mods i have on my r33 i could and did beat a gtir pulsar. And also i would'nt exactly call an R33 gtst a whale. As for a prelude keeping up with one i dont know?? And another thing do a 7000rpm drop the clutch launch, why the hell would you, firstly you will either burn your clutch out, blow up your gear box, or if none those happen take a look at the burn left in your fly wheel, oh and if you aint happy do it again.

top end?

what exactly do you consider top end in traffic light race?

like I said.

exhaust and filter and was running 13.5 all night with no big launch.

I ran a 13.8 as my fastest and my trap speed was 165km/h which was red line in 3rd gear.

so what is this top end you are refering to while racing GTiR's from the lights?

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
