OK After slowly collecting parts for the past couple of years i am now about to start the buildup of my 33 gtst. The way it is at the moment is pretty much completely stock except for a carbon bonnet and 3" Dump and exhaust with apexi n1 muffler.

I plan to do this in 2 steps, first get all the bolt-on items done and tuned for low boost then second step simply internals ( forgies, rods, balance ) and add more boost.

I have so far colleced the following for my stage 1.

Greddy Plenum

Q45 throttle body

Q45 AFM

HKS 3037s

Manifold

HKS wastegate

(steve's old 320kw setup)

Hybrid 600*300*76 intercooler

Apexi PowerFC

Apexi AVCR

HKS adjustable cam gears

bosch 040 + 044 fuel pumps

SX adjustable fuel reg

Fuel surge tank

Tomei timing belt

Nissan Inlet and Exhaust gaskets.

tomei 256 poncams

nismo 740cc injectors

What else am i missing, or what suggestions have any of you guys got before i start this.

***now also have Argo rods, Tomei 256 poncams and springs, ARP head stud kit. Just Jap Oil cooler Kit.***

dude thats like exactly the same set up goin in my 33, good to see the results, mine wont be ready till probably april/may next year, just finishin some things on the car now (looks and interior) then i can save for fitting and tuning since i have alot of the egine parts already...

she's gonna run sweet mate, have fun when its done...

btw, u gettin the .63 a/r or .87, im goin with the .87

sourced a few parts from nengun which made the whole process a fair bit cheaper...

good to see ppls comments so it helps me as well...

cheers...ben.

i would do internals 1st :) i think it would be cheaper tuning wise as u would only have to get the car tune once and there is no chance of u braking it before the internals r put in, if u get me :D

just something to think about dont wanna do all the bolt-on mods and damage the engine then have to wait for the cash to come in to get the internals done

mike

Ben, the 3037 has the .87 exaust housing. Its steve's old turbo setup, check out his thread.

Mike, steve was getting 321rwkw with stock internals, so i should be alright running low boost for a few months.

I personaly would do internals aswel. A set of forged pistons etc.

As you will save muking around later down the track when you will have to pull out the engine to get it bored & honed.

To make the most of your set up i'd do internals, As for steve's car their are other components that have made he's engine reliable - Lower compression = less detination. but too low compression also = slug coming onto boost, so you have to weigh it up. So an aftermarket head gasket is what i would reccommend.

If you do internals now you'll thank your self later. - Trust me ;) - depend on your $$$ aswel, so its up to you at the end of the day.

other than that its a very good package and show'd go very well.

:D

Nice!

Got similiar parts installed on my car already except turbo is a Garrett GT35 and boost controller is HKS EVC 3.

Do the internals first before it blows and save youself alot of labour costs from getting everything installed and then removed to get the internals done later.

Yes.What a list of mods and no cooler.especially when the car will see the track and street.the oil will get a longer life helping the engine out also.

Go the oil cooler.Go to the group buy section and get one or go to the oil cooler advertisment by shift performance in the bussiness thread. They are different sizes though i think the shift set comes with sandwich adaptor, oil filter relocator braided lines and cooler(13 row i think) and can only be bought as a set.but the group buy one by meridan you can mix and match different combos but they only sell a 19 row oil cooler i think.

You certainly have a list on your hands i wish it were me....Aggggh! :drooling:

im in the same situation, so what combination of internal work would be best, ie, which pistons, rods, etc??

any help appreciated

ben...

Arias forged pistons seem to work 100% fine.

As for rods you can do a combination of

Arias pistons & Standard 25 rods and crank - Cheep option - but this limits you with reving your car past 7k - also your stock interal head limits that aswel (valve's & springs etc)

Better way to go would be: Arias Forged Pistons & RB26 rods with standard crank. - with balancing etc. - You can rev upto 8000 rpm easily. - need some head work though.

Or expensive option is: Arias Forged Pistons and Forged conrods. I've fround that Crower & eagle do good rods at reasonable prices.

Other brands of pistons.

Arias

Venoli - Not sure on spelling

Wiseco

HKS

JUN

Grex

Tomei - etc you get the drift.

hope that helps,

:)

It definatly will see some track work but will probably be more 1/4 mile initially. Oil cooler is going to be added once i get the thing up and running.

On the subject of rods, anyone used the forged revs ones that hioctane are selling for around the $1500 mark.

    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
    • You just gotta be really, really, really clear and decisive with what you want your end product to be. 99% of people who want this conversion aren't "I want to run a 295 front tyre!" so they don't really need the widebody. They just want the OEM body to look a little less dumpy, so bonnet, bar, skirts job done with some camber, stretch, slam. It's when you want that, but then decide to pivot later you get big problems. See also if you're willing to get an all in one fibreglass bar, and you're willing to accept fibreglass problems like cracking the entire item on a driveway, instead of just a piece attached to the bottom, etc etc etc. Decide this all before buyin'.
    • After @Kinkstaah debacle, I'd never want to try and get it right 😛
    • The hood lines up with the fenders. The front bar doesn't perfectly line up with the fenders where the wheel arch is. You have to 'squeeze' the front bar 'in' as it wants to naturally flare out and be longer on the sides. There's a few threads where people notice this when they only swap a GTR style bumper and front bar. Unless you have genuine OEM items - you may be better served getting conversion kits. There are GTT bumpers to fit GTR hoods. There are GTR hoods (non genuine) to fit the GTT bracketry. MAY
