Heres my dilema, I currently have an MY00 WRX which I have had from new (some mods) and am thinking of getting an R32 GTR.......................

Problem is I am so confused as to what to do, keep the WRX or sell and buy a GTR, is there anyone out there that has done the swap??? If so what are your thoughts.

Cheers :P

Yeah I walked that path. Mine was a 94 WRX with suspension mods.

The change is unbelieveable. The WRX is so idiot proof, you really think your better than what you really are.

But once you get the hang of the GTR it's a real blast! It's a more fine tuned machine.

i have a r33 gts-t with few mods and my younger brother has just purchased a 98 wrx. we have been on a few cruzes now and i have thrashed his car a little myself. point is my 94 skyline is much more fun to drive and he is starting to think of doing the swap to a skyline himself.

go skyline!

*sensible head on*

I wouldn't go for an R32 GTR, not if it's to be a daily driver. Compare the 4 year old car you have now, with known history to a 10 year old car which has probably been thrashed for most of it's life. Whether it's been well kept or not, at the end of the day a 10 year old car is a 10 year old car.

Yeah, the R32 GTR's are awesome, no question, but time is catching up with them... :ghost:

R32 GTR...Hmmm...Need we say more! :D

a 15 year old gtr will have less rattles then a 4 year only hyundi wrx

there is a reason they are call hyundi's... cause of the build quality of the older ones... althoug i must say the 02 sti i drove was far nicer than the older shape build quality wise but then again hyundi has imporoved over the last few years as well

Yep sure did

went from a MY01 with 190kw@all four to a r32 gtr and I'm loving it . The GTR has a fair few mods and is a blast to drive much quicker then the wrx and I don't have to be scared to punish it (blew two std box's in the wrx without trying) .

My GTR isn't an everyday car but neither was the wrx so I can put up with a not so refined drive for alittle bit of fun on the weekends. I think if it is going to be an every day car you might want to go and have a drive of an r32 gtr as some people do find them abit hard to live with on a day to day basis.

just out of interest, cause i'm getting sidetracked to gtr's too.

what are the hard to live with things?

how will insurance compare to a rexy too?

i have an r32 gtr and have driven a 2000 wrx i much prefer the gtr but i am biased, though my gtr is 12 years old and is in good condition it is still dated compared to a 2000 model car but that doesn't really bother me, the only downside as a daily driver is that the suspension will probably be a bit harder than your wrx and i would say will definetely be thirstier, but on the upside much more of a drivers cars than a wrx, much more

I'm 21 but am paying not as much as some ppl might think for insurance on my GTR it's under a father/son deal but I only do minimal km's a year which makes the deal cheaper.

Things that might be alittle hard to live with from day to day are things like harder suspension and depending on what clutch combo your running that can be alittle bit of a pain in traffic . Other then that something like an r32 GTR is an older car now and doesn't have the new relaxed feel that my my01 wrx had but the GTR feels like a more complete package all round .

hyundai WRX :) true..

Depends what you like.. do you like noisy buzz boxes..or effortless power?

I'm not sure about the age of the GTR would be the biggest concern, seeing as many RX would equally be "thrashed".. thing is the GTR is built for it.. not sure about the Impreza - don't see many old ones forsale strangely :ghost:

Keep the rex and buy a gtr as well , you have the best of both worlds .

I have owned several rexes from 94 model to 01 and an sti ( 4 door 00 ) ,

just sold my 01 and 00 sti . Reason buying r34 gtr .

Have 2 gtrs both 33's ( series 1 +series 3)

You can't compare the gtrs with rexes , totaly different cars , gtrs been far superior .

Now selling a 4-5 yo car you bought new and looked after it to buy a 15 yo car with a million k's under its belt ( don't look whats on the clock its bull***t ) and more than likekly thrashed the shit out of it maybe a little hard .

In my case its easy as i do my own work so don't have to pay for labour and get parts cheap as well .

You won't smash the g/box in the R if its o.k when you buy it , they are very strong , the synchros maybe a bit stuffed though But who cares if it crunches a bit . What do you expect after 15 years of abuse . You may need a new clutch ( too many 8000 rpm launches )and the donk maybe on its last legs , they don't last forever .

Once you drive the 15 yo R you will never want to go back to the rex , you will want to buy the latest R just like me .

There is no way you can get the rex to go like the R , if you manage to get it to go anywhere as quick you will be braking it every time you give it a bit .

Its like comparing a boy to man . Thats the reason a new wrx in japan in 2002 was 2.5million JPY (3 mil for sti )and a GTR was 5.5mil for mspec , 6 mil for a v-spec and more for nur spec .

Good luck with whatever you do .

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.
    • I have the re003s’ on my 06 XT Forester Turbo and I highly rate them for street wet and dry
    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent.

    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
